I just got back from the range with my month old ar-15. It is a RRA National Match Lower and a Del-ton flat top w/ 20" government profile barrel. It is topped with a centerpoint 2-7x32 scope. I just got 500 rounds of the american eagle xm193 55gr FMJ ammo and needed to try it out.

I set up my silhouette target at 100 yards and popped a 1" orange dot sticker right in the middle of the head. My first 5 shots were low by 2". I adjusted my scope up a few clicks and my next five shot group were all inside of the 1" target dot!!! In 20 years of shooting I cant ever remember a 5 shot group so small. Suffice to say, what the range gods give...they can also take away...all the rest of my groups were in the 2-3" size range (much more normal for me).

I figure with some more practice (and LOTS of luck!) I hope to see more tiny groups like today's!

If you shot a MOA group using M193, the gods must have been looking down on you. 2 to 4" groups with M193 is usually about the norm when all other conditions are perfect. M193 sucks in terms of accuracy.

Is that a 1:9 barrel that you have? If so, try feeding it some Black Hills or Hornady 52gr BTHPs and see what happens.

Nice shooting.

Congrats, small groups are fun.

If you get some good ammo like Hornady TAP, Hornady Match, or Federal Gold Medal Match you will likely find you can do that quite regularly.

A decent AR with good ammo and optics, and favorable weather conditions make 5 into an inch pretty easy.

A 10 shot sample size will tell you what the rifle is really capable of. Outside of luck I don't see you pulling of a sub-MOA 10 shot group with that ammunition from any rifle.

If that's the recipe, I'm in! I think the group today was more luck than anything, but it was a great feeling to FINALLY break 1"!

Congrats!! In a few months you will be mad if you don't shoot 1moa groups:p

If you don't, start reloading for your rifles, 1moa will be a thing of the past.;)

For years I have been a shooter of surplus ammo (especially cheap former com block ammo). A good day was keeping all my shots on a 5.5" shoot-n-c target;).

Today's group was probably 90+% luck (especially since I couldn't replicate it!). Just in case it wasn't, I popped into my local gander mountain and picked up 100 rounds of black hills 52gr match hp ammo (for $60!). I figure I need acceptable ammo for those days I get serious about group size. I'm also saving all my brass to start reloading someday.
