Eight years ago, on election night, rather than being depressed by the results i decided to take my then three year old out to the garage and start to teach him how to reload. I posted it here on this old thread:
https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/heres-how-i-spent-the-election-night.404108/

When we finished, I figured I would save those loads to fire in freedom or in the defense thereof. Well eight of the longest years of my life have passed and it appears that freedom is again on the horizon. So I went into my ammo locker, loaded up my now 11 year old boy and decided to go shoot that ammo. He has come so far in these last eight years, from shooting BB caps, to .22 LR and now he shoots most anything. He was a bit hesitant to shoot .44 mags, but we only loaded them to about 2/3 power so he agreed to give them a try.

Although I have several .44's, we decided to use my Ruger Redhawk. It was my first handgun that I got when I was 14 or 15. I saved up half and my dad picked up the other half for earning good grades.

Here are some pictures from eight years ago and today:

It was a great day with my son and watching him shoot is always fun. Thanks for the look.

Great stuff, Matt. Truly.

The best times shooting for me are with my son, who's now 26... last time we were up near Mojave, in a canyon with a 25-mile crosswind and using the covered bed of his truck (the nose of which was pointed into the wind) as a magazine loading shelter.

It was awesome. .45 ACP, .308 and .357 from a 16" '92 to 50 yds isn't much bothered by a little breeze... we nailed soup cans left and right. It was another good day.

Hey, thanks for the pics. Time flies, doesn't it.

Good for you and well done. Have you just created a ritual for armed citizens?

Great post. I am proud of you AND your son. One piece of free advice from a former NRA Instructor - try to get your son to lean forward just a little bit so his shoulders are just forward of his hips. It will make dealing with recoil MUCH easier for him and make him more stable for sight alignment and hold. Feel free to reject my advice. Good job.....

Neat post! My best times are shooting and hunting with my sons. And I'll echo Drail on the leaning forward-though neither of my boys does, and they should know better-I taught them in 4-H. :cuss:

Great post! It was several years ago my oldest grandson came running into my loading room, jumped on my lap, (slight disruption) & asked what I was doing. Showed him and ever since he has been interested in helping and reloading! Just set him up to do whatever, last time he visited he asked "Where is the lubrisizer? Gotta love it, a seven year old now, one step at a time....
