I bought the grips below (The ones on the left) last month from a rather nice gentleman on THR-

I got them yesterday, and they are BEAUTIFUL/ LOOK BRAND NEW.

Unfortunately, they do not fit my 642.

I sent an email to the chap last night late, stating that they are too big/ don't fit (ie did he ship me the wrong ones) but did a little looking around. Can someone tell by looking at them- are they "square butt" j-frame grips, or "round butt" j-frame grips?

He sold them and I bought them only as "J-frame" grips. I think that I needed to do a bit more research before I bought?

Any insight?

Well, the rear , bottom area of the grip looks squared off, I would guess square butt.

Those are all round butt grips.

Square butt grips look like this.

If they are too big they are probabky K or L frame grips. Square but and round butt J-frame grips are just about the same size.

If they were J-frame grips they absolutely positively fit your 642.

LynnMassGuy-

Thanks. You are right. I put them next to my 642, and there is no way they would EVER fit. They are WAY too big.

I put them next to my old model 10, and, with the exception of these being round, and the 10 being square (I can now CLEARLY see the difference that you spoke about) they are the EXACT same size.

The chap sold me the wrong grips/ He made an honest mistake.

I sent him a PM this morning, but so far no response.

Let's hope I don't get burned, and he makes good on his error...

Sounds like you need to go out and buy yourself a K-frame to go with your rgips :) I recommend a model 19, any barrel length.
