Hi guys I currently live in Costa Rica and haven't kept up with the latest on optics. Back in the States I have a Saiga .308 and I'm considering replacing the Red Dot currently on it with either a three or four power fixed, possibly a 2x6 variable scope. I'm fine with plain old crosshairs however a quality dot would be fine. Would prefer decent glass and something not too bulky that doesn't completely rely on batteries. Going with that information what do you think my options are?

if it needs to stay that far forward to mount on that gas tube mount (not generally recommended) you're going to need a long eye relief scope like a scout. https://www.burrisoptics.com/scopes/scout-riflescopes-series/scout-riflescope-2.75x20mm

if you can mount it back of the receiver, I was impressed by this optic at the nra show. it's small. https://www.primaryarms.com/primary-arms-glx-2x-prism-scope-with-acss-cqb-m5-5-56-reticle. I'm temped to pull the Leupold 1-4x off my 9mm ar and put one of them on it.

I have the PA 1x Cyclops. So far its been fine. Rides on a 223 flattop.

However.....i had irons on it and they were dead center windage wise (DD 1.5 rear and front ). Adding the Cyclops and they reticle center was off to the right.

Both irons and optic were zeroed independently and both hit on the money.
But would not cowitness perfect.

My Leupold RDS put the dot on front of front sightpost when zeroed

Dunno what optical issue caused the lack of alignment w the PA. I just yanked the irons. If the battery dies the Cyclops reticle if glass etched so supposedly irons not needed. Magpul flip ups had same issue on same rifle.

Just sayin.

The PA 1x can kinda sorta be used like a RDS when lit. But 1X leaves a lot to be desired and the ACSS is kinda silly without using a magnifier.

For any medium range or hunting Id look at the 2x or 3x and see if they do what you want ( without magnifier ).

Thanks for the ideas! Receiver placement is not a prob, I was planning on getting a side mount.... probably should have mentioned that.
