Ok, Ok..... I normally don't watch, but there was nothing else on. ANYWAY.... these two "detectives" were fighting and one of thier weapons was fired. The "Mayor" was on the other side of the door and wanted to know what happened. Trying to cover their fight, the one "detective" said he was cleaning his gun and it "just went off"....... then the other detective said his "safety must have malfunctioned"..... of course the "mayor" bought this ('cause safties malfunction all the time) and just told them to be more careful next time!

What burns me up is that THIS is the kind of GUN information all the soccer moms are hearing and making thier uninformed decisions about......

Woman #1: "Ethel, did you know guns go off all the time just by accident? I just saw it on my soap"

Woman #2: "My goodness, we need to outlaw all guns!"

:cuss: :cuss: :cuss: :cuss: :cuss:

Dude, this doesn't even rate as far as something to be concerned about. Anyone who takes anything they see on a soap opera to be a reflection of any part of real life is too fargone to be of any concern anyway.

Sorry -I disagree

It's important. It's pervasive in our society and just why do you think it's become such a big issue?????
Years of indoctrination on TV, movies etc that the sheep watch.

All this stuff is basically not-so-subliminal subliminal messages...Guns are bad...they go off and kill innocent children...

No matter how stupid something sounds to you because you know better, to an average person if he/she hears it time after time after time, it eventually rings true. It's just like an average person when I tell them that I am from USSR, says, "Oh, it must be really cold there", to which I then have to explain that in Azerbaijan the average winter temperature is 70-75 degrees and I have only seen snow twice in the 19 years that I lived there.

Ignorance is bliss.

Its all part of the firearms-illiterate Hollywood propaganda. No worse than the gun lore on most any other show. Just another example, with a slightly different audience.

Now, how do we get more women to watch "Tales of the Gun" so they get more balanced info?

But I just love Young and the Restless.....

I know the last time I was cleaning my m44 it went off and shattered the neighbors window.... :scrutiny: the saftey malfunctioned.....yup.

It could happen. My toaster (I was positive it was empty!!!) started kicking out Pop Tarts last week and I didn't even touch it!

That must have been the Young and the Restless. That's one of my least favorite soaps. They don't always put guns in a good light on that one.

General Hospital is much better, less PC. They appear to be a little more thought into the writing, too.

Days of Our Lives is just plain goofy. I watch that when I'm in a goofy mood. Usually with a big ol bowl of popcorn and a six pack of diet Pepsi.

I'm just kidding.
I don't drink that much soda. :neener:

It's a silly soap opera.

My classmates in college would watch those shows in the lounge. Bad acting, bad plots, bad catfight hair-pulling, and all that talking aloud to oneself so people could follow the stupid plots. At least when I talk to myself aloud, I answer back. :p

If people are so vulnerable that they believe what they see in soap operas as reality, than they're the same people who believe it's a good idea to walk on front of a speeding semi because you said it's a good idea."Baaaaa? Really? Okay!" splooosh

Plus the simple fact that when cleaning a gun, it's dis-as-sembled (Johnny No. 5).

How does a gun go off while cleaning? Hmmm???

I know the last time I was cleaning my m44 it went off and shattered the neighbors window.... the saftey malfunctioned.....yup.

You too??

This goes along with my whole "50% of Americans are below average, and their vote counts the same as ours" shpeal. People watching soap operas as a general habit are definitely under suspicion of being in that lower 50%, but I wonder how many of those people actually bother to write letters to politicians, protest, run for office or even vote? As long as their ignorance stays in their little heads and doesn't manifest itself in the outside world, they are welcome to it.
As for the writers for these fine, quality educational programs, trying to explain reality to them would only get a blank stare. Their job is to provide escape from reality (while providing a good vehicle for selling household cleaning products), not portray it.

Since I work Mon-Fri, and no cable, generally very poor off-air reception, I don't watch these.

And I already have enough drama in my life without that.

Why do we hear stories of people cleaning their guns and getting shot? I would think one of two things. These people were just darwinated (sp?), or someone shot them and that was the story that was told. I mean don't people make sure their guns are empty before they start messing with them? Another thing I don't clean my gun until I have run out of ammo to shoot, then I clean it and go to the store and buy some more.

When I took my CCW class the instructor said that if you shoot the gun you better have a good reason to b/c any lawyer can prove beyond the shadow of a doubt that the gun just doesn't go off.

The first mistake is buying a televsion. The second is turning it on. ;
OK, you have one to hook up to a DVD player and that alone justifies their existence.
