Who actually makes the iai 1911.Is it made by sam or armscor.A local dealer has a commander for 345.00 that has all the extras. The mags look cheap, but overall it doesn't look bad for the price.I was wondering if anyone had experience w/them and if they were close to being in spec.

AFAICT...

The defunct Israel Arms International Inc. of Houston, TX.
briefly sold 1911-type pistols made by KSN Industries, Ltd. of
Kfar Saba, Israel.

Not to be confused with Irwindale Arms Inc. of Irwindale CA,
which obtained the production rights to the Automag pistols of
AMT (Arcadia Machine and Tool), and also produced the
1911-pattern 10mm Javelina.

iai

This gun was imported thru Houston and has iai on the slide. It also says made in Phillipines-it has lightened trigger, beavertail, extended slide release,etc...Just wondering if it would be worth 350.00 for a beater and experminter.

Probably made by Shooters Arms Manufacturing, in that case.
Forged slide, cast frame.

Should be okay, but be forewarned that it isn't quite spec, so some third-party "drop-in" parts (replacements/upgrades) won't just drop in and will require quite some fitting.

A new Shooters Arms Mfg (SAM) or even Armscor/RIA GI-model might not be too far off the price you quoted, and yet offer better customer after-sales support.

Can't remember where, maybe Buds or Impact, but somebody had RIA's for $273 or thereabouts.

Or $380 for Springfield GI at GunsAmerica...B&H listed that price.

Just a tad more than the stated $350 will get you a Springfield Armory 1911 with high quality Imbel forged frame and slide, and SA's lifetime warranty. And all standard parts will fit as well as they do on any other production 1911.

The IAI guns Ive seen look like incredible guns...all of the right parts for a 1911 guy who doesnt like Mil Spec stuff.

But the slide/barrel/frame fit was the worst Ive seen on any gun and the triggers werent much better......

Shoot well..........
