I'd like to hear from members where the shelves are NOT bare

I am finding ammo and AR's, but I really have to search. I did pick up 3 Bushmasters this week and a pair of complete uppers, plus 2 cases of 9mm and a case of 223. None of it was cheap.

My LGS has ammo trickling in but there aren't any AR's. I have been trying to get 4 Taurus TX-22's with no luck until I went to take him a check for a consignment that I sold for him. He had one in stock and sold it to me for cost. We're buds.

I was at Academy recently and went to check their inventory and the shelves were a little anemic and they had ammo of what I was looking for and don't reload yet, but I ended up buying 300 rounds of .380 sig brand and bought 100 rounds of 10mm. I was going to wipe out their 22 mag and 22lr cci rounds but decided to put it back as I have enough of both calibers for several years. I figured I would give my fellow shooters that were caught with their pants down a chance to buy it instead.

A gun shop in Milton, Fl I visited this week had everything. 9mm HP was about $40 a box of 50 (several brands), 9mm JHP was $15/ a box of 50. There was 223 but I don't remember the price. 9mm and 223 was 2 box limit. They had red army 7.62 x 39 at $6 /20 rounds. I also stopped by Wal Mart in Pace, and they had 2 boxes of 12 gauge 00.

I was in NC for work and stopped by the Academy store as I do not have them locally in MD. They had plenty of shotguns and handguns, did not check prices closely since I couldn't buy there. Ammo was pretty scarce but shelves showed normal retail prices. There was no .22 LR, only had short, .22 Mag and .17 for rimfire. No .223, .300 or 30-30 but they had almost all other assorted rifle calibers. Lots of shotgun hunting ammo but no self defense. Only handgun ammo available was 1 box of .40 self defense and a few boxes of. 44 mag. They had a limit of 3 boxes per customer for 9mm, .308 and 223/5.56. Picked up 10 boxes of 12 gauge shells to shoot clays with my nephew, typical prices.

With all the military kids in that area shooting at Southern Tactical I would bet the popular stuff is gone

Was at Dunham sports today. All the wall displays were full of sport and tactical shotguns, sport and tactical rifles. The handgun case was full but I didn't check to see what calibers or prices. No 9mm ammo. A few 40 cal. and a little 22lr. A few other calibers but not much of each. There was a few cases of 12ga. Bird shot but about all the single boxes of all sizes were gone. I was looking for 12ga. Slugs. Found one box rifled 12ga. There was plenty 20 ga. What was interesting is there was not one box of 410 bore in the store of any kind. None. So what's up with 410? I did stock up on 30 06.

They have more on hand than anywhere else in the area- including academy in P-cola and the usual places in Crestview. I haven't checked Ranger firearms in Ft Walton. As far as southern tactical- don't get me started.

IBTL! My LGS is pretty sparsely stocked but it's not a huge town so if I happen to stop in on the day they put out the order there's usually a pretty good window to buy 9mm at least, and maybe 5.56 if I'm relatively quick.

There are 2 dedicated gun shops here and 2 Walmarts. There is an Academy sports about 25 miles away. A Cabelas and BPS within an hours drive. I haven't been in either Cabelas, nor BPS recently so I can't say.

The Academy has some less common rifle ammo. 450 Bushmaster and 350 Legend were plentiful as of yesterday. A few boxes of 243, 7-08 and 22-250. Some 22 shorts. No handgun ammo. A few handguns, and bolt action hunting rifles.

About the same at both Walmart stores.

The smaller gun shop was about the same last time I was in there. They tell me they get common ammo trickling in, but it doesn't stay on shelves long. They still have less common hunting ammo. Only a handful of used, well used, handguns. Mostly relicts and gun buyback fodder. A few bolt action hunting rifles. No shotguns.

The larger store is still in pretty good shape. They have all popular handgun cartridges and just about anything you'd want. The guy who owns this place has money, lots of money. And he inherited lots more a few years ago. He has spent a ton of it on inventory over the last several years buying up guns in large lots. He has new guns in the store room that are 5-6 years old and the boxes have never been opened. He bought up ammo on pallets and stored it.

In the last week I bought a Smith M&P 45 from them, 200 rounds of ammo for it, 2000 primers, 200 .308 bullets and a pound of powder. They have the best selections of Hornady bullets in NW GA of any place I've been in. They have a lot of powder, but maybe not what everyone is used to using. I bought a pound of IMR4166 to try in my 308. They tell me that their inventory is shrinking, but they started out with a lot. Not much new coming in though.

The smaller store has better prices, but the bigger store isn't scalping anyone.

Our Academy store had been consistently receiving ammo 3 days a week, which sells out within a couple hours of going on the floor. They put out around 50 boxes of Federal 115gr brass 9mm for under $9 a box yesterday, so prices aren't jacked up as yet. You do have to be on the ball if you want to participate, though. It was all spoken for by noon.

Not much 9mm or .223 anywhere around here in North Central WI, but there's a fair bit of the rest, especially rifle. Even bought a bunch of Wolf 7.62 at Fleet the other week.

Guns are a bit picked over at Fleet but the other LGS have a fair few, Zingers and Flingers by Wausau has piles and piles of guns, never seen their shelves so stocked with pistols.

Number of nice CZs seems to be growing there, though their prices have gone up a bit.

Plenty of pump SG's, BA rifles and revolvers around here. And ammo to go with them.

If you're looking for semi anything in 9mm or .223 forget about it.

I've pretty much focused my looking for ammo and possible guns to online. Theyre out there but you have to put in the time searching for a halfway decent deal and buy it when you see it.

The local shops have ammo, sort of. They don't seem to be 100% out of anything depenind on what you are looking to shoot. By that I mean that they don't have much in the way of 115 fmj 9mm for $9, but they have loads of SD ammo at $26 per 20. Shotgun ammo, kinda the same. No 00 buck but I could hunt birds or bust clays all day. .380 is available in bulk fmj, which kind of surprises me. I picked up a couple boxes of flat meplet .38 special fmj at somewhat higher than normal prices, but I wanted to add another 50 to the stock pile while it was there. I've found reliable SD .357 for about $18 per 20. I have been stocking up on what I can find here and there.

The good ol' .40 seems to be weathering this well just like last time. Plenty of 50 round fmj available. Old warhorses like the .45 colt at easy to get. While its more modern .45 acp is tough to scratch up in fmj, there are plenty of boxes of high perfromance rounds that still come in cheaper than buying a box of powderpuff .45 colt. I nearly picked up a new Great Western II to have something to shoot .45 colt while I wait for the market to settle out, but even a $350 gun isn't that attractive when ammo is $30 a box. Still kinda tempting to just go ahead and pick one up though.

.22 magnum and .177 are aplenty. .22 lr is spotty. Hunting rounds like 30-30 and .450 seem to be available. I don't have anything chambered in them, but I think 30-06 and .308 seem to be on the shelves. I think I saw a bit of .300blk as well. .223 and 7.62x39 are as rare as ball 9mm, though.

In short, I can shoot pretty much anything I want to shoot as far as my guns go, but it's going to cost me. Just a different thought process. Instead of blasting through target ammo, I'm going to be forced to work on my premium game and really take my time and dial in my carry ammo. I don't have the time to shoot enough to even worry about stocking up a years supply or getting into rolling my own. Firearms are just one of many hobbies. If there is a drought, I'll do something else. I'm just as likely to drop $500 on a new knife as I am a new gun, especially if I can't feed it.

My normal supplier for reloading components isn't your average supplier, he primarily sells at local gunshows, accepts only cash or postal MO, and doesn't ship. Met with him yesterday and picked up:

8lbs HP38
4lbs H4350
5K in WSP
3K in WSR

His prices are still the same, $29 per K for primers, 8lbs HP38 for $176. He stated he's got plenty of his normal stock-age on hand. He also has a lot of Aqulia ammo and some S&B. He did state he was out of 9mm till his next shipment comes in.

Here in Stillwater, Oklahoma,,,
We've got two Wal Marts and an Academy Sports.

Between the three I've found:
  • CCI Mini-Mags
  • CCI Standard Velocity
  • Federal Auto Match
  • Remington Golden Bullet
  • CCI in other varied types

Academy had a decent selection of 9mm.

This was as of the 26th.

Local hardware store has a decent amount of ammo. His selection of 9mm and 5.56 is slim, and buckshot is un-available except for 3, 5 round boxes of 16 gauge that I bought for myself. 22lr is available, and the prices aren't too bad. He even has some CCI Mini-mags, but not many. Plenty of rifle ammo in stock, even some off-the-wall stuff like .303 British and .30-40 Krag. Same with shotgun cartridges. You can buy 12 and 20 gauge game/trap loads by the case if you so desire. With dove season knocking at the door, I did.

As far as guns, things don't look quite as good. Any type of semi-auto handgun is un-obtainable. Same for tactical rifles. Bolt guns, lever guns, and rimfires are plentiful however. There is a pawn shop in town that also has guns and ammo, but he is over-priced. He's raised his prices after the plague started, actually. One Glock (used .45 acp with considerable holster wear and 2 extra mags) is priced at $599 plus tax! But, it's there if someone wants it, I guess.

Things aren't looking too bad around here, but they may get tighter if ammo doesn't start moving again.

He sounds like a good supplier. Pity there aren't any gunshows these days in JF,LV or DG county... :(

It's hit or miss around me. Was at Cabela's last week, no 9mm and only a couple boxes of 50gr .223. They did have some .22 CCI SV as as well and a littl .22 mag. Plenty of other centerfire cartridges, though their handgun ammo was much more spotty than rifle ammo. My favorite local gun shop is pretty bare all around, with maybe 10 guns in the whole place and most of them are used trade-ins.

This morning I hit up a couple older hole-in-the-wall shops that I normally avoid because they are priced SOOOO high. The one marketed as a surplus shop had a handful of surplus rifles (an M1 Garand, couple M1 carbines, some random bolt guns) and probably 800 rounds of 5.56 and .223. I didn't ask the price and they weren't marked but they looked like they'd been sitting there for years. There was also an old pack of 1000 Winchester small pistol primers, back when the packaging was still white and orange. I don't need any so I didn't ask what he wanted for them either. The other shop was out of 9mm and .223. but like Cabela's had a good stock of everything else. The only "black" rifle was a M&P 15-22, but he had plenty of handguns, shotguns, and bolt action guns.

I was in a north Texas Academy last week and there was ammunition rimfire, quite a bit of centerfire rifle and a little pistol stuff. Plenty of bullets, surprised to still see primers but they were there, only one type of powder, more guns than empty spaces behind the counter.

Didn’t go look at anything specifically but could tell from a distance the primers were Winchester.

West Armory in Dade City, Florida. Had plenty of about everything just a 2 box limit on FMJ, decent amount of rifles and hand guns. Even had small bulk cases of Aussie .223

Sunshine State Armory in Zephyrhills. They had ammo in every caliber but not a lot of each. Good selection of handguns, a handful of Henry Rifles.

Rural King in Zephyrhills no 9 or 40 or .223. They had a big pile of shotgun shells, some hunting rounds. They had about a dozen crates of the M855 rounds of 5.56. 1600 rds for $800.

Grey Wolf Armory in Welsey Chapel, technically he didn't have 9mm. He did have some behind the counter but it was for people buying guns. He did have .45acp, .40, 7.62x39, .223 and 5.56 but 5 box limits. He had reloading supplies, I saw powder behind the counter

Empire Pawn and Gun in Land o Lakes. They had a bit of .45 acp and .40. A bunch of PMC .223. Lots of hunting and oddball calibers. Handgun selection was lacking but plenty of shotguns and hunting rifles

In SW Indiana LGS had no 9mm, but had most other calibers. First time I'd been in that store and prices were higher than I was used to, but not sure if it's because of the times or if that store is normally higher than I prefer. Rural King was bare on 9mm, but started restocking while I was there. Picked up two boxes of PPU for 11.99/box of 50. They were low on .45 as well, but had most others.

As I said in my other post in this thread, I was in Walmart in Pocatello last Saturday, and they had 4 boxes of 22LR, CCI Minimags sitting all by themselves on the shelf. I bought 2 of them. However, I was in there again yesterday (Wednesday) and it was the same thing - 4 boxes of 22LR CCI Minimags sitting all by themselves on the shelf.
What do you think? Is Walmart in Pocatello only putting out 4 boxes at a time in order to discourage hoarding perhaps? Or was it just coincidence?o_O
Edited to add - they had a variety of 380 ammo, but no 9mm or 38 Special as far as I could tell.
