This past week I purchased the Taurus Millenium PT145. One major concern I had with this gun was the pre Sept 2001 frames cracking. Since this one was built in March of 2002, I am okay there.

My question is, since Taurus says anything over a 225gr FMJ and 900fps cannot be used due to warranty, what would be the best round to shoot as far as practice and home defense rounds? I didnt realize that they advised not to shoot anything over 225gr and picked up a box of ElDorado Starfires @ 230gr and a box of FMJ's also at 230. Thanks in advance.

Fire the rounds you want. Taurus will have no way of knowing how many rounds of what ammo you fired. They will still fix your gun.
Out of a short barrel .45 I like the lighter faster loads. 185 grain loads do well.

Like George Said Shoot what you want through it. I have been shooting 230gr Goldots like they are going out of style...no Problems at all !!

I think you're misinterpreting what Taurus is saying, CumminsPower. They say the gun is designed and tested for the 225gr 900 FPS ammo, but I don't see anything that implies that the warranty is void if you use zippier or heavier ammo.

They're just saying that if the breaks and hurts you with more potent ammo, they're "not responsible," which merely implies that you pay for your own injuries, if any. The interesting thing is that the language implies that if it breaks and hurts you with less potent ammo that they DO have some responsibility. They need new lawyers to review their manuals....

Short barrels are generally better suited for lighter bullets anyway as was already said.

Ammo

I was using wolf through my PT-145 and broke it...

When you pull out the break down pin there's a little piece of metal sticking up inside the frame. That broke off and the slide became very loose.

I now keep that gun in the car as a backup to my backup

I shoot all sorts of 230gr hard ball ammo (lawman, blazer, winchester, pmc, whatever factory stuff I can find cheap) through it for practice. I have also used goldots, hydrashocks, silvertips, and taurus' own copper hex bullet. As stated before the short barrell likes the lighter bullets. My gun has performed well with the silvertips and the taurus ammo.

Cacique500 - Two things for you.
1. DON'T shoot Wolf Ammo.
2. Contact Taurus, they will fix your gun and it will be as good as new or better. You might not thing it worth the effort now, but in the long run you will be glad you did.

Wolf

George,

Thanks...I did both - Taurus fixed the prob and had the gun back in a couple weeks and I shot out the remaining Wolf. Thats the nice thing about Taurus is their lifetime gaurantee - now if they'd only start making Colts & Kimbers :)
