You were a great help with diassasebly instructions for my dad's old Standard Arms Model G last year. It has turned out to be a wonderfully accuate and reliable rifle.
I came across a cartidge in his trunk and I'm not sure what it is. It is very close to the 250 Savage but it has a 139 gr FMJ bullet. I don't know if you can identify it but here are the measurments.

C.O.L =2.991
case length = 1.993
rim dia =.475
case ahead of rim =.447
1.537 to shoulder, .414 dia at shoulder
1.700 to base of neck, neck dia .291

Powder is square cut flake

There are no case stamps, but the primer is staked in with 3 radial staking marks.
Thanks for any info.
Pete

The picture LOOKS very close to a .276 Pedersen with the bullet pulled out, but the lack of a headstamp suggests that this is a military surplus cartridge; have you got a bullet diameter?

What is the bullet diameter?

The 139-gr. bullet weight and the other dimensions, plus the no headstamp with a 3-element primer crimp, leads me to believe that this is a 6.5x50 Japanese Arisaka cartridge.

Can you e-mail me a picture? My company's firewall won't allow linked pictures.

The e-mail is [email protected]

If you don't get this until after 5 p.m., don't e-mail a picture, as I'll be home by then.

OK, now that I can see the picture I don't even have to look up the dimensions.

That's a 6.5x50 Japanese Arisaka round, no doubt about it.

However, as final confirmation, out comes the Cartridges of the World, which confirms the range of measurements. While not exact, they are all well within the tolerance ballpark.

It's a 6.5 Arisaka round.

Thanks

Thanks Mike, I knew I could count on you guys for a solution. It makes sense,as the cartidge fell out as I unpacked by Dads old WW2 Navy uniform to look at it.
Thanks a million for the new souvenir of my Dad's life. :)

It is definitely 6.5 Japanese.

Is there a color band around the bullet at the case mouth?

Pink is ball; if it is anything else, I will look it up or someone else will know.
