Newbie to site here but not to firearms. Just traded for a Model 38 S&W. Really nice 38 spl, nickel, with original box owners manual and paper work. Has an unopened cleaning brush with it and 2 inspection tags still stuck to handle. Not sure if ever fired. Any info and date will be appreciated. Thanks,

Probably shipped in 1983 just before going to the alpha prefix serial numbers

I just bought a Smith model 66 2,5". Gun only. It's got s serial number of some former dept. or some such roll marked on the side plate 260002734. Nice gun, no flame cutting. I just mention the number realizing there's zero chance of I.D.ing who owned it. DOB would help a lot.
    Thanks, Jim

38 Military and Police, Model of 1902 2nd Model. Probably shipped in 1902. If you measure from front of cylinder to end of barrel, I think you will find it is a 4" barrel and not 3.
There were produced with 4,5,6 and 6.5" barrels.

It was shipped in the year 1902 based on the serial number. Smith and Wesson never published manufacturing dates, only shipping dates. For $100 you can get a letter from the S&W Historical Society and it will tell you all the details such as date shipped, who it was shipped to (probably a dealer or hardware store etc) and in what configuration such as barrel length, finish type and type grips. Sometimes the letter will tell how many guns were in the shipment and what the invoice price was.

I am trying to help a friend, disabled Navy Vet, gain information about his S&W Revolver. I believe the revolver to be a Model 10 Nickel finish, but there is no model number under the crane. This is the information that I can provide.

    a) caliber is a .38 Special
    b) 2" barrel
    c) Square butt grips
    d) 6 shot cylinder
    e) Fixed front blade - grooved rear
    f) serial number is "353399 C" with the "C" after the number in every location
    e) The Model number is not visible under the crane. I found another site that said a "C series" K frame with this serial number was produced between 1954 and 1956. The revolver appears to be in very good condition. I need to get a jewelers glass to see if the model number has possibly worn off, but there does not appear to be that much wear elsewhere. Any help would be appreciated.

S&W .22 revolver, 6" bbl, adjustable sights, ser # K132xxx. It has well worn S&W wood grips with the diamond shape around the grip screw. There's no Model name or number on it. Any idea as to manufacture date and what this model was called? Many thanks!

It was shipped in 1956. The C should be a prefix instead of following the numbers. It could be considered a Pre Model 10.

Shipped in 1951. It is a pre Model 17. Correct model name before 1957 would be K22 Masterpiece.
