Thanks very much for the info.
I found my model 60-7 box. It has a special order number of 4136 indicating day 136 of 1994. I think 1990 was the first year of production. I don't know what the last production year was.

22 rimfire number 1 tip-up, second issue, serial 851xx

32 rimfire number 1-1/2 tip-up, second issue, serial 638xx

I’m fairly sure that the “2nd issue” is correct for both, I’m really just looking for a rough date of manufacture for them. I don’t have them in hand yet or I would include a photo.

Model 60-15
3" Talo Exclusive
Round Butt
Serial number DAF58xx

The SCSW has no mention of the DAF serial number prefix. It does refer to the three letter prefixes as being hard to trace. Maybe it's not in the catalog because it was a Talo? IMG_20201004_122614806.jpg

The 29-3 was made from '82 to '87. In todays market, Id expect an 8" example to have $1100-1500 on the tag, depending on condition.

Howdy ya'll...I'l take a turn at this. I inherited this Smith from my Father: story is; this is part of the "Lend-Lease" treaty with GB. This one was in .38S&W, sent to England, converted to .38SPL, and sent back to the RCMP, then re-pat. back to US. 20201013_230146.jpg 20201013_230146.jpg

Nice looking .32 Regulation Police. On the front of the grip frame you should find the same serial number that you show in g). I am guessing post WW2, and not long before it gained Model 31 status based upon cylinder release, but that is only a SWAG on my part.

Thanks for the info, got this from an old friend (he has passed away) and he served in Military Intelligence in Germany after WW II.
Of course, he couldn't tell me what he did in my Fatherland without it having consequences for me...................................
The Revolver looks fine and I think perhaps I should one of these days spent a few Dollar to actually shoot it.

The AYC SN's are 1988, according to the catalog. That the dash 4 started in 1988 could mean Cureos' M29-3 was one of the last of the series. Those other numbers on the inside of the yoke are production/assembly stamps, have nothing to do with the SN. You'll see them stamped on pieces like the frame, yoke and occasionally a cylinder (underneath the extractor star), so the pieces stay together as the gun moves along the line.

This going to be a thread for those who are looking for a date of manufacture for their S&W revolvers.

We'd need to know :

a) caliber
b) bbl length (from cylinder to muzzle)
c) grips shape (round or square)
d) number of shots/cylinder bores
e) type of sights.
f) serial number, and if there is a letter in front of or anywhere near the s/n on the bottom of the grip
g) Model number if it is under the crane.
That number, if it is the s/n, should come from the butt of the grip (or under the barrel or face of the cylinder).

A picture or two is worth A LOT of words in this case...

sidearm; a 38 M&P of 1905, 4th change. This version's serial number range was 241704-1,000,000 and the dates of production were 1915 to 1942. Heat treated cylinders started with serial number 316648.
Is that a nickel finished and is it marked "Texas State Prison"?

I've looked over several threads and someone always is full of knowledge in this group so joined hoping to find some additional info on my revolver.

16111131479023407026724181898322.jpg 20210119_222435.jpg 20210119_222451.jpg 16111131479023407026724181898322.jpg 20210119_222435.jpg 20210119_222510.jpg 20210119_222510.jpg I'd like to know the approx. year of my 38 S&W Special CTG Z and approx. value in it's current condition. The serial number is 136429. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

From what I can find in my book, it looks to be a 38 Military & Police of 1905, 1st change, possibly overlapping with the same model 2nd change as the serial number range is 73251-146899. This would have been made somewhere around 1909 or earlier. Price range is hard to say, especially in today's market, but condition seems to be "fair" (although the grips look to be in great shape). Per my 3rd Edition which dates back to 2006, value was ~$150 and up. There is a more recent edition from S&W which might have different values.

That's great news! Thanks for the info George, I had no idea it was that old. I bought some ammo and was planning to shoot some rounds. Should I be hesitant to fire the gun with it's age? The barrel seems to be in good condition but no idea when it would have been last fired.

I would not fire anything powerful as this was made before S&W started to heat treat the cylinders for strength.so low power loads like some soft wad cutters SHOULD be OK - of course having a good smith give it the once over is always wise with guns like these.

Sir,
This S&W 38 K Frame, 5” bbl is Nickle.
It is NOT marked “Texas State Prison”.
Are you saying that by Serial # 367426 it is, or it is not heat treated?
Any and all information for this gun is appreciated.

Too bad because Texas State Prison versions are $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Since your number is above the one I cited, it would have a heated treated cylinder.

With the cylinder released there are 4 digits. Do those digits mean anything that would give additional info? 20210122_212113.jpg

The serial number on the butt matches the serial number on the barrel. With the cylinder released there are only 4 digits. What does that tell you?

Could someone have changed the cylinder? A possibility........... The frame and barrel match so you know that those are the same.
