I'm trying to find a manufacture date on an old S&W Chiefs Special I just picked up on Gunbroker bearing a serial number of 716517. It's a .38spl with 2" barrel & round butt. Fella who was selling it says he carried it on duty in the early 1970s.

The “MOD 36” is inside the yoke housing. SN# JBA8236 on the round butt, no dash. Appreciate any help, thanks

Hi. I just acquired a Smith and Wesson 624, 44 spl., 3" barrel, Lew Horton edition, round butt, serial# ALW5036, stainless steel, 6 shot, adjustable sights. Can you tell me the correct product code for this revolver? It is either #103580 or #103583. Thanks, TSR

I took advantage of the market and sold two commodity pieces to buy one more collectible revolver. Can anyone help me date a S&W model 28-2 with the serial # S211xxx? It is a 4" model with magna grips (if that's the correct term).

a) 357
b) 4
c) as shown in photo
d) 6
e) conventional
f) N951446
g) 28-2 Highway Patrolman

Assume 1984-1986 vintage but wanted to try and pin it down. Also would like to know approximate value. 20210420_153231.jpg 20210420_153134.jpg

I have a newly acquired Chiefs special I’d love to know the year of.

Its a Model 36 (no dash)
Serial # 664235
38 Special
Fixed sights
5 shot
Round butt
2” barrel, though I believe it’s called a 2” barrel but is actually slightly shorter.

Any help would be appreciated

In 1969, the serial number began being stamped with a "J" before the numbers; does yours have that?

a) .22lr
b) 3.5"
c) square butt
d) 6
e) Adjustable rear sight
f) M78xxx
g) Under the crane is stamped 'mod 45', but the box says Model 43

Does anyone have any info on this gun when it was manufactured and possible value as of May 2021?
Thanks in advance. It has 80% bluing with some holster wear but internals are bright.

Not much more to tell, its a Late-80s Model 36 which has had the hammer spur ground down. Nice condition, though.

c). A round butt K22 would be an alteration, all period K22s are square butt.
f). 1948
g). Should not have a model number. I doubt barrel logo is K22 Long Rifle CTG

Can't appraise, just hundreds, not thousands... if the butt had not been mutilated.

Thanks you are right about square butt... I had a brain fart there But as far as I can tell the barrel markings are correct.
Thanks for the year. It isn't a 5 screw so that was throwing me off. k22.jpg k22.2.jpg
