That would likely be 1943. Hard to say without a letter or another more detailed reference like Charlie Pate's book. They made about 3/4 million of them (2/3 British 38 S&W models and about 1/3 US 38 Spcl models) during the war.

DOB for a 25-2

Have an N frame 25-2, heavily modified. Blued, adj rear sight, sq butt, ser# N6721xx . Ser # is crooked like someone hammered in on by hand.

Riss: Vi prefixed guns were produced from 1942 to 1945, yours predates September 1944 when the change over to the SV prefix occurred at serial number 769001, and is probably from 1942 or early 1943.
Technically you have a British Service Revolver, made in the same serial number range as the Victory Model and prior to that in the serial range for Militart & Police model of 1905 4th Change. Caliber was .38 S&W, with a five inch barrel.
If it is a lend lease gun it should have UNITED STATES PROPERTY or US Property stamped on it, and or GHD or WB inspector marks.
Gun has the Early grips. I found that makes it possibly prior to Feb 1942. Is marked 38 S&W Special. Not the 38 S&W that I would have expected from that early of a date.

Are the grips numbered to the gun? S&W would have continued production of the .38 special, selling them to police departments, etc, so even with a V prefix it could be a commercial gun. If it has US property/acceptance marks then it would be a government contract piece.

I really need to get the specialist book on M&Ps, I was hoping to get a copy at the gun show yesterday, but no luck. I consoled myself by buying a 95% model 18 from 1977. :)
