    .32 Winchester CTG is commonly known as .32-20. These guns are known to suffer from bulged barrels when fired with high speed jacketed rounds, so look for lead ammo that is rated as pistol, not rifle. Your gun lacks modern heat treating for the cylinder and should not be fired with high pressure ammo.It also lacks even the early hammer block safety introduced in 1915, so it should be kept loaded with the hammer down on an empty chamber.
    476xx is the serial number. Your gun is a .32-20 Hand Ejector Model of 1905 3rd Change Manufactured between 1909 & 1915.
    16095 & B476xx are assembly numbers used to track parts in the factory. You can ignore them once the gun is assembled.

    This will probably be my last post for a few days as I am moving house. I'll answer any questions when I get back on line, unless one of the other knowledgeable posters feels like answering queries while I am away.

    tonkawa,

    Your Model 15-2 was made in 1968.

    wlewisiii,

    You 64-5 DOB was between Aug 1990 and Jan 1991.

    HisDivineShadow,

    You 17-2 DOB was 1965.

    WVMountainBoy,

    You 66-2 DOB was between Jan and Nov 1984.

    rctiny,

    Does the S/N on your 36-1 by any chance begin with a "J" - check the butt of the gun for the true S/N.

    FIVETWOSEVEN,

    Your 14-2 DOB was 1967.

    vthokie83,

    Check your S/N again. Are you sure that the "8" isn't a "B"? Did you get it off the butt?

    joe_security,

    Your 36 DOB was between 1976 and 77.

    OldCavSoldier,

    That 640's DOB is between Aug '91 and Jan '92.

    Londo,

    While I am far from certain (others please verify this, as I am NOT very familiar with pre-war 32-20s, this appears to be a 32-20 Hand Ejector 1905 4th Model dating sometime between 1915 and 1940.

    obed_ned,

    36-1 = 1979 - 1980

    042 = Aug 91 - Jan 92 (but I'm not 100% on this one)

    40 = 1971 - 1974

    For #4 on your list, could you post a pic or three?

    ---

    That's all I have time for tonight!

    I just picked up a S&W Model 64-3. It has an inventory tag that shows that it was once used by the TDCJ, which I think is the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. Here are the important details:

    a) .38 spl
    b) 4 in.
    c) square butt
    d) 6 shot
    e) fixed sights
    f) AJB0XXX
    g) 64-3

    Thanks in advance for your help on this; it is truly appreciated.
