If Glocks aren't the best, then what is the best?

I didn't realize the question was so hard. I'll take a crack at it.

The best brand of basketballs is Spalding because the feel is superb and it's the official brand for the NBA.

The best brand of running shoes is Adidas because they don't give me blisters and they fit my feet great.

The best brand of mayonnaise is Best Foods because it tastes outstanding and has the smoothest texture.

The best brand of handguns is Glock because, for my purposes, they have the most desirable combination of features, reliability, durability, simplicity and customer service.

There, I did it. These are all my opinion of course, but it is possible to pick a best brand of anything.

That food factory mayonnaise is on your personal list when you could have chosen anything on the planet is damning.

Whatever the "best" of anything is, it isn't going to be a whipped glob of cheap stuff thrown together for ease of manufacture and shelf life by "food scientists" at the expense of well, every other factor. Scratch mayo with fresh and hand selected ingredients is so easy Geico's caveman could do it.

That Glock affection you have has become far more understandable within the context of your more general "taste."

I'm with the "there is no best" crowd. I believe that we are individuals that have different tastes & come in different shapes & sizes. There is no way to determine what is best because it is too subjective.
For me I own 3 different brands of semi-autos & they all work. If I ever find myself in a situation the best one will be the one I have with me that day. I tend to think autos are best for home defense, or when in town, revolvers are best for the woods. There are people who would disagree with me. I don't think they are wrong. Different things just work better for different folks.
Why is it so important to you to quantify what is best? Why does it matter what other people think about your choices?

What's best? A Glock with a LW barrel! Just joking ok?

Good one :D and I am not joking.

I don't think we could answer a "best gun" question, there are too many variables. Even though I am a fan of Glocks, they won't survive a house fire whereas my 1911s and other full metal pistols may (except for the grips). I recommend to people if they don't have a fire rated gun safe, to buy firesafes at Walmart to store their polymer guns.

Maybe a better question would be (it would still generate the same arguments, but will narrow the choices down a bit):

Best gun below $200
Best gun below $300
Best gun below $400
Best gun below $500
etc.

So far, I see 2.5 answers to the original question. All the non-answers tell me a lot actually.
Yes, and a person with 2,600+ posts, and starting a thread such as this, tells me a lot too. You've been on this forum practically non-stop for almost 3 years, and haven't learned anything about what makes a particular gun the "Best" for a particular person.

Well -

There's this:

http://www.luxurylaunches.com/auctions/45_luger_carbine_the_worlds_most_expensive_handgun.php

Glocks are not on my list.

I consider them the Orcs of handgun land,

But that is because of a well known trail of pretty

Horrendous lapses in business ethics.

Not to say that other companies haven't slipped into that pit, also.

"To live outside the law you must be honest."

~Bob Dylan

I really like dealing with honest companies.

There are a lot of phenomenally good guns out there

For less that a million dollars.

Find out what you like, and it will likely

Be the weapon fits into your hand like it was born there.

Nevermind the brand, or the price.

Mayonnaise snobbery??? That's a new one. :scrutiny:

There isn't a best brand, completely subjective, quality varies gun to gun even with the same mfg.

Yet again ! It's like saying that I married the "best "woman or drive the "best " car . Glock is a great brand , so are 10 or 20 others ! It seems like everyone has to make their candle burn brighter by blowing someone elses out ! get a life people ! it's just an opinion not fact because you or I say so ! If you like it , and it makes you feel confident in your ability to protect yourself , then "it" really is best to you !

Mayonnaise snobbery??? That's a new one.

The larger point was that he thinks he can pick the world's best mayonnaise off of the rack in a plastic jar at almost any grocery and/or convenience store in the nation.

It was as if he said "Best Cookie? Chips Ahoy." It was silly and it was beyond obvious his experience with actual mayo runs the whole gamut from Hellman's to Best Foods. The only worse answer for "best mayo" would have been "Miracle Whip."

Rather like the typical Glock owner's handgunning experience runs the depth and breadth found between Glock and a Highpoint.

I'm SO tired of these best threads.

you base what is best for you on your personal needs and preferences.

OK,, I'm gonna make this REAL easy !!! The best handgun in the whole doggone world is the Browning BDA .380. There, I said it! Hands down, the BEST handgun in the world!
Why, you may ask?
Because:
1.. it's the one I carry
2.. I can hit a small target VERY accurately with it, multiple times, even if the target is moving
3.. I like the way it looks
4.. I like the way it feels
5.. I like the size and weight of it
6.. It does the job I want it to do
7.. It inspires MY confidence in it
Now then,, VERY many of you may think I am full of S--- , But, to ME, this is the best handgun in the whole world...
Get the picture? this is the best handgun for ME! YOU, may, and most likely do, have a very different Best handgun in the world....
Read my list of 7 items and find the handgun that fits this list of criterion for YOU !

You gotta have a stiff neck constantly looking down your nose.

Can't believe I defended Glocks!
