IF I were to buy a Savage

    It would be a 99. Looks like Savage might accommodate me. .308 will be fine. :)

    using an investment cast receiver al la ruger a modern day sav99 could be made in a cost effective manner

    well the wording of that letter leaves no doubt about their opinion. glad to see a straight candid answer not some layered up beat around the bush

    What Marlin is a copy of what Savage?

    Wow ! Glad to hear that Savage might be bringing the model 99 back.

    But I don't understand the comment about a Marlin being a "knock off" of the 99.

    the new marlin xl7 is almost as big a ripoff of a Savage 110 as the ruger LCP is of a Kel/Tec

    Oh, man, I hope they bring back the 99. I'd be all over one of those in .308.
