If you could "ban: one topic from THR...

Simple: The most useless phrase is "use the search function".

*First, the search function sucks. If you wish to know if the XD9 has had a history of FTFs, you search XD9 FTF. You get any thread with an XD9 in it and you get every thread containing FTF. Literally thousands of threads to go thru.

*Second, we have a ton of new people. They want to interact with the experienced pros. This is not a read only forum. They wish to feel a part of the discussion and actually contribute to it.

*Third, products are fixed by the mfg (recalls) and the issue of a year ago may not be relevent today. This is quite common on new pistols.

*Fourth, ammo is constantly upgraded, reconfigured, etc. There is new ammo out and what was "the best for...?" 2 years ago may not be true today.

*Last, when someone tells someone to just use the search function because it's been discussed before it means he is bored with the topic so he felt the need to be rude and inconsiderate. Hey, if it bores you, move on. Don't feel you have to mark your territory like an animal. Treating newbies with disdain does not help the forum grow as a community and keeps fresh ideas and people new to the gun world away.

Don't ban a thing. I come here to learn, and even the "9mm or .45?" threads usually contain a nugget or two every time.
I don't snap at my little kids because they ask questions that my older kids already asked 1,000 times before....

ban the "if you could ban one topic from THR" topic.

Ask what you want, and read what you want. I see these posts about what not to discuss making people leery about posting. The long time members that have seen the same topic over and over are not obligated to reply. But the new guys (me being one) may not have seen them and would miss out on the topic. Otherwise we'd be looking up years worth of threads that no one will ever reply to again. And the mind numbing "If you only get ..... gun" and "what should my wife shoot", they might not be mind numbing to some. Post freely and read/reply freely. Like others have said, there is enough banning going on. Just my two cents.

Reposts. Especially reposts of questions that have already been answered numerous times and could be re-answered with a simple Google search.
Lots that ask that are new one on here. A lots that jest getting in to guns. So let then ask away I will help them out if I can. I bet you ask to find out about guns and diff thing about guns. I fought we had free speech in the USA but some on here has said we do not!

Anything that starts with "Talk me into.." or "Talk me out of.."

Just buy the bleedin' thing, for pete's sake!

There really is no need to ban anything. Just don't read the threads that hold no interest for you.

Personally I have some sort of mental defect. I just can't pass up a cleaning thread, or best oil thread.

They don't need to be banned.......I just need to get smarter, and stop reading them.

Lots of interesting responses. Please remember I had my tongue in my cheek here; I actually did say in my OP that I'm not really in favor of banning anything.

"Which 9mm is best?" Or, more recently, "which sounds coolest on full-auto?"

I'm not in favor of banning anything. I want this forum to be open to any gun related topic.
If some on this forum don't want to read it, they should just move on to the next topic.
Thank you, my sentiment exactly. There are hundreds of threads and thousands of posts on THR every day. Most folks only read a few. What ever tickles your fancy is fine with me. If I don't like the topic, I don't have to open the thread.

Banning? Why?

larryh1108- I think you got it right. Thanks
That is about all there is. I would never go into someone's home and say they have too many books. Most of them will be of no interest to me, but all will be of some use to someone.

^ this!!! ^ 1,000,000 times over! every time i see one of those "just use the search" posts all i can think of is "gee thanks for not contributing a single thing to this thread *** ****!" if i wanted to read the opinions of four people from NINE YEARS AGO, i would have used the search. since i wanted some current thoughts......i didn't!

I wouldn't like to see any topics banned. Have to admit though the "I Lost all my firearms in a tragic boating accident" reply has been played out.

This truly is a toughy......

Anything containing the word 'socialist' as an epithet, particularly when it is clear that the poster has absolutely no idea what socialism is.

Thats a pretty close one.

Honestly though, and I'm sure I'll catch a ration of "s" for this one...... I would ban :

"The 2nd amendment protects all of the rest"

Not because its not true- But because you cant say that out of one corner of your mouth, and selectively enforce the 1st amendment out of the other side only when it suits you.

I find that to be one of the most unwholesome paradoxes of THR.

I get it. I've "heard" and "read" the rationale 100 times over. It still makes absolutely no sense to me, and the enforcement is........ Well, I'll say "selective" and leave it at that.

Nothing. Absolutely nothing.

People like to shout out into the empty night sky and listen for a response.

People like to talk about the same old thing, over and over.
People like to ask without searching.

Maybe it is a sad statement, but people like to talk to other people, even in such a limited fashion as a forum.

So, keep them posts a flying.
What gun should I get my girlfriend? Well, I think you really wanted us to know you have a girlfriend and that she likes guns. :)

What pistol should I get, money is no object? Okay, you have plenty of money. :)

Should I get a .45 or a 9mm? Neither. You should get a .22LR and after that you will know something. :neener:

There is a scratch on my new pistol, should I send it back? After showing photos and zooming in on it you can still barely notice it. Yes, send it back so that it will get more scratches on it during shipping. :scrutiny:

This stupid gun is jamming, a gun that costs XXX should shoot anything I put in it! It should, I put a twinkie in mine and it shot it fine. If I had known that twinkies would be so valuable I would have not done so. :D

My gun shoots 6" groups at 100 yards! Piece of junk! Its not me either, I can shoot 1" groups with my XYZ gun. My friend shot it and it was fine.... ooooo....

Its all fun, and if you read all of this, just shows that we like to do this stuff we do on forums.
