I’m not into custom guns or exotic calibers. Just ones I know and trust from experience.
If I could only have 20 I’d have to get rid of a bunch. That’s just not something I think I want to do. I really like all of them. Even the ones that don’t come out much.
I would be quite happy with 20 guns. That would fill every practical need I have, several wants, and grail guns just because they are interesting to me. I know some people can have 30 Mosins and still want more. That just isn't me. For a laid out list, I would have to think it over. A Medusa revolver would be on there as a grail gun. As well as a Coonan. Those come to mind since I discussed them with the Mrs earlier today.
19 hi-points and 1 naa mini. Oh, any 20? And I don't have to buy them? I'm sticking with my answer, life time warranty is tough to beat.
If I won the Powerball I'd buy a couple hundred guns just because I could. But the most guns I've ever owned at the same time was probably shy of 20, and that would be twice as many as I have now. No doubt that 20 would be more than enough to fill every niche I can think of, and the only reason I'd ever want more would be if they invented something new (eg caseless coming to the commercial market, etc). But I suppose I would pick: HK P30 V1 LEM in 9mm. HK P30 LEM (Bill Springfield) .40 S&W (because I have it already and a .40 is handy for the woods). HK USPf9 Match Hybrid LEM w/Jet Funnel kit. HK VP9 9mm. HK P2000 V1 LEM 9mm. HK USP45 Tactical HK SP5/MP5 (SBR'd and suppressed if possible) HK HK433 (5.56) PWS MK114 Mod 1 (5.56) PWS MK109 Mod 1 (.300 Blackout, SBR'd) Wilson Combat rifle in .300 HAM'R (would have to look at the model #s) Beretta 1301 Langdon Tactical S&W 5" 629 Henry X Model in .45-70. Ruger Precision Rifle 6.5 CR Some kind of .375 Ruger built on a Mauser action Some kind of 7mm Mauser built on a Mauser action Beretta Nano 9mm Walther PPS M1 9mm Browning Buckmark 5.5 To be honest, if I had all of those I'd probably only use half of 'em, but they'd cover things I don't do now but still might someday (eg hunt bear or elk). Some of these of course are guns I have already, others are things I haven't gotten to yet.
Well the OP never said it had to be in the realm of possibility, so I'd opt for some non-neutered war relics like a full-auto VZ.58 and Thompson SMG. A pristine Luger or C96 Red 9 would be cool too.
Adding to my page one post, would seem I’m as capricious as a school girl when it comes to firearm likes. YouTube seems to add to that by watching others shoot what I don’t have. Currently it’s civil war era carbines. I avoid vids by Hickock45, the man just brings to light too many models I’ve not seen before.
I’d probably have about 5-8. I’ve changed over the years and I don’t really see the point in collecting material items I don’t/won’t use.

Only missing a few. M79 175 Recoilless 8” 105 M2 Quad Plenty of ammo and a place to shoot them. Realistically I’d settle for just the M79, a bunch of inert training rounds and a bunch of grape shot. Don’t need any WP or HE, Everything thing else I’ve pretty well already got!
What's in the safe has me pretty happy. However these would be nice... 1. Wildey Automag 2. Browning A5 Sweet 16 3 Garand M1 4. Mauser Broomhandle 5. Luger P08 6. Blued Redhawk .357 7. Heck why not one of these.

I'm not sure I know enough to pine for 20 yet, but I certainly have some on a bucket list. Let's see: 1. Colt 1861 Navy 2. S&W Model 1 1/2, series 2 3. double barreled flintlock 4. A blinged out and engraved 1911 5. A replica of Russell Crowe's "the hand of god" from 3:10 to Yuma (I think it's an 1873 Cattleman) 6. Ruger GP100 10 shot .22 7. North American Arms mini revolver or vintage Derringer 8.Kimber K6S Subject to change daily...
Just what I currently have, thank you ... plus a VG/EXC-condition G/K43 ... well, and a late-mfr 1st Gen Colt M1873 SAA (in .45 Colt) ... and, maybe, an MG42 & Lafette 42 w/optics (plus spare barrels, tools, accessories, etc) ... I'll stop now ...
Kinda funny this thread should come up. Of late I've been thinking that 20 guns is a nice round number that would cover everything I need, or in truth, want to do. Not to say that I don't have and want more than that. But as I get older, gathering more and more material possessions just because I can seems...well...glutenous? So I'm coming to the point of paring down the guns that duplicate function and replacing some "keepers" with with one's of higher quality, or having some custom work done...maybe. Then again, there are still a couple holes to fill on my function list...
