Which would it be? Looking for a grail gun, in the .38 special / .357 magnum catagory.

    Is everyones gun, the Python?

    S&W Model 19 or 66.

Pythons are bigger then I prefer to carry all day and don't fit my hand as well as S&W.

Another S&W 66/19 vote. My 4" M-19 is the biggest pistol I'd want to pack 24/7 and about the smallest .357 I care to shoot with .357s.

Runner up is the S&W 586/686, but it's quite a bit heavier. A Python is definitely out.

I would sell it and buy one example of all the rest.

A SW M&P manufactured in 1951 (my birth year) is my holy grail gun. But if I I am limited to a gun for all situations it would have to be a toss up between my ruger SS SECURITY SIX .357 with the 2.75" barrel or my Colt Lawman MK III .357 2".

    Don't overlook the GP 100.
    Built like a tank.

    I second a GP100, that or a Security Six.

I'm going to guess very few people will pick a Python. It would be a luxury gun I'd like to have, but if I needed one and only one .357 sixgun that has to last me, it's gonna be a Ruger six series revolver. Probably a 2.75" stainless Speed Six.
Although I could very easily be talked into a 3" SP101 as an alternative.

Edit to add: It's interesting, I wrote my response before looking at the other replies. So far, in 10 replies, NOBODY has picked the Python.

Ruger Security Six. It is currently my only .38/.357 revolver. Accurate as hell, and it seems to be indestructible.

    Hard choice, for me..........It'd be either a 3" Ruger SP101, or a 3" Ruger GP100.
Both are really handy guns to carry. Actually the SP101 carries a bit easier, for every day use. I carried one for 8+ years.

My present Model 19 is a slice of classically blued firearm candy which shoots every bit as good as it looks. It will be the last or second last handgun I ever part with when I'm too old and decrepit to shoot any longer. And at that point I'll lovingly pass it on to a new shooter to carry on the legacy.

Hard to say. Right now I'm itching for one of the 3.5" barreled M27s. I probably carry a snub more than anything though.

Ditto on the Rugers...either the GP100 or Security Six. Rugged and accurate.

    Greetings
Mine will stay the Dan Wesson 15-2 with barrel options between 2 inch and 10 inch. I can CC with the 2inch, go plinking or whatever with the 4 and 6 inch and hunt large critters with the 8 or 10 inchers. One gun lots of possibilities. Plus the DW is possibly the strongest factory made and most accurate production 357 double action revolver about. Just check the Silly Wet records.

Mine is a fixed-sight, stainless, four inch, 1/2 lug GP100. Already have a copy or two of it.

My would be the one...the only...S&W 686. I recently inherited my dad's 686 no-dash, and I can't imagine a better wheelgun. I noticed a few Python lovers, and while I've never fired or own one, I've got to imagine that the 686 delivers the same quality, strength, and accuracy (if not better) than the $1200-$2000 priced Python.

If I were to have only one .38 (that is to say, not capable of fireing 357's), it would be my Colt Official Police. A little heavy on the trigger when compared to the 686, but boy oh boy is it fun to shoot!

It would be my S&W 60-18

I bought it simply because when I picked it up my hand and it made sweet sweet love ;) only afterwards did I learn how exceedingly rare and in demand these are.

Yup, I own two Taurus, one Ruger GP 100, and One S&W Model 10. I would pick a Ruger, or a S&W any day of the week over a Taurus because I now know the difference in the Triggers Between the Three.

Lots of good choices to choose from. One, if not the best 357 mag I've had the pleasure to shoot and own is the scandium alloy N-frame M327 TRR8, balances nicely and it has a nice, DA trigger that is conducive for fast follow-up shots.

Designed for lead penetraters on door entry teams it is capable of attaching bottom/top rails for lights and red dot holographic sights. At 35ozs, it makes for a nice carry in regular form. :)

    I have 3 357 revolvers:

    1968 Colt Python 4"
    Ruger GP100 6"
Smith and Wesson Model 627 4"

    I have 1 snubby:
    Taurus 605

    I 38 snubby:

    RUGER LCR 38

I'd have to say the Colt Python is my favorite. No other gun has the same feel and action. It's innately accurate and smooth as silk.

I have not handled all of them but I feel whatever I picked for "the only" would have a minimum 4" barrel.
