If you could only have ONE and I mean ONE 4 inch double action revolver.. what would it be?

My 4" revolvers consist of the following
Ruger GP100 357 blued
Ruger Security Six 357 stainless
Ruger sp101 22lr
H&R 923 22lr

The GP was the first revolver I ever bought.

But if had ti be one the Security Six carries a little easier and has the same effect. The SP101 would be a good understudy for practice.

S&W 586 or 686. 6-shot version only because they don't make Safariland Comp-2 speedloaders in 7-shot (HKS speedloaders suck). The Python is nice but the cylinder release is just WRONG and the cylinder goes the WRONG direction. These are of course facts, not opinions.

The Hillary Hole doesn't really bother me enough to perform surgery to remove it (that would make my 586 a "Trans-volver")

The S&W Model 15-3 that I bought in 1996 is my favorite handgun, but if I was limited to only one I'd probably keep this Model 66-3 that was my dad's, since I can shoot both .38s and .357s in it, and it's stainless.

What else would a man need other than this? A good dog

This is a real tough one for me but in this hypothetical scenario I think I’d have to keep my Ruger match champion. Amazing trigger, deadly accurate, well balanced, good adjustable sights, amazing support at Ruger if needed. My 67-6 is just as good but it’s 38 only! Ruger can take the hottie 357’s! If you could only have ONE…. What would it be? 15? 19? N frame?View attachment 1229729
S&W model 617 .22LR

It would come down to this gun with the 4" barrel assembly I bought recently:

Or, with the grips I'm about to buy for it, one of my 4" 28-2's. I really hate the Magna grips, both for looks and comfort. Probably the one on the left, it's just a little nicer than the one on the right:

Maybe with grips like these:

Easy decision for me. My .357 outdoor carry. S&W 66-1. Perfect for my application of cougar/black bear threats with 180gr hardcast from Buffalo Bore which moves out of the barrel fast. I have a model 65, also a San Antonio PD issue revolver from my Dad but that does not have adjustable sights, which I prefer.

I’m talking about society collapse, you can’t take em all with you boondockin’. You need ONE da revolver for work what would it be
Now that you've qualified the "why" one gun as some kind of an apocalyptic event like societal collapse, I'd want to keep the most durable, reliable revolver that could take the most abuse out of the revolvers I own. That would be my GP100 4" 357. Not the best looking one or the one with the best trigger but the one I'd want if I was in survival mode. The Timex of revolvers that "take a licking and keep on ticking."

in this case my actual answer isn’t a s&w 10-5 or any double-action revolver.

it’s my 4.6” ruger blackhawk 357/38/9 convertible single-action revolver, because if shtf there will be more 9mm than 357/38 ammo floating about.

or maybe it’s a 5.5” ruger single-six 22wmr/lr single-action revolver, which is my car-trunk, walk-home, bag piece now because 100 rounds of each rimfire flavor is a lightweight and small footprint.

I'm sorry but, every time I see a taped up grip I always flash back to it being on a toilet tank in an Italian restaurant in New York. And I think it's tacky. But, each to their own, it's Great to be in America.

Nice single but the question is only one DA revolver. No glock option in this hypothetical
