ONLY ONE!!!!!!!!!!!:what: OK, OK, S&W 3913. Carries flat, shoots well, feeds any 9mm load. Can be my always gun, but sure would hate to give up my 640 no dash! S3000014.JPG

and now....

The HK P7, in Hard Chrome, in a Black Sharkskin holster from Rafter S on a Black Sharskin belt, with a single mag pouch. Loaded with Cor-bons or similar.

Hey, I have that allready.

Glock 19

I have other pistols that I like better but if I could ONLY have 1 then it would be the 19 because it's easy to maintain/fix.

Hmmmn...For $1500...

A CZ-75 SP-01 9mm with night sights (around $600 out the door)

A CZ Kadet .22 upper to go on it (about $280 delivered)

1000 rds of WWB 9mm ball (about $140)

150 rds of WWB 9mm hollowpoint ($60)

2000 rds of premium .22 LR ($50)

Streamlight Rail mounted TLR-1 TacLight and SureFire G2 Handheld ($200)

Retention holster, gunbelt, 2 x spare magazines, and magazine pouch ($170)

I'm all set...

If I really had to pick only one it would be the one in my BOB, and that's the Glock 17. The choice implies a state of social affairs that would conduce to a hyper-reliable and highly accurate 9mm, light to carry but ultra-durable, with high-capacity magazines. I've thought about this many times and I have a number of other options, but so far the G17 stays in the bag.

Walther P99 . 40

Just so you have a firearm in the house or carry it doesn't really matter.
What matters is "THE RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS" and self protection is not being paranoid it is being SMART :)

+1 on the Glock 10mm! 15+1 of up to 230 grain and down to 135 grain; soft .40 ballistics to mid-range .41 mag ballistics (from my 6" Jarvis barrel). Conversion barrel (for plinking the plentiful .40) for around $100, and reliable, simple, and accurate (fair from the factory, and excellent with the Jarvis barrel). I think it's right at $1100 with all the goodies, so I still have $400 left for more stuff! :D

Glock 19, enough said. I would use the rest of the $1500.00 for ammo and mags!

If you could only have one semi auto hand gun say under $1500 for self protection uses which would it be? Size, concealment, shooting deer on occasion, experience etc. doesn't matter. What is your choice if able to pick one semi auto gun for general defense here in the US? (Emphasis Mine)
Emphasizing both self protection, and occasional hunting use on animals up to deer size there are 3 options I like.

1. A pistol in 45 ACP, capable of, and with the parts for a 45 Super conversion. 45 Super for hunting, 45 ACP for all other general use.

2. A pistol in 10mm, with a 40 S&W bbl fitted. 10mm for hunting, swap in 40 S&W bbl for general use.

3. A pistol in .38 Super, with a 9mm bbl fitted. .38 Super, which gives .357 Mag ballistics even with heavier loads, for hunting, swap in 9mm bbl for general use.

Pistols, off the top of my head that meet these requirements - 5" 1911 in any of the calibers listed first in each respective combo; Glock 20 in 45 ACP, 21 in 10mm; HK USP (fullsize) in 45 ACP, SIG P220 in 45 ACP; CZ 97 in 45 ACP; S&W 1006 in 10mm, or equivalent fullsize metal frame auto in 45 ACP. There are others I can't think ofthat are probably capable of one of the 3 combos.

I'd go handle as many of those as I could. See what pistols fit your hand, and which ones you shoot best. Those are my general suggestions for full versatility in both everday and hunting use. The hotter of the two calibers in each combo, while commercially loaded, are much more economical when handloaded. Very good pistols all three base calibers are available for well under $1000 which allows room in the budget for spare mags, holster, and a reloading press if you're so inclined. I like 1911s and will likely try the 45 Super conversion on my base Springfield when I return from overseas. Hopefully the caliber combinations I listed are helpful.
