What would it be? I am looking for a powder that meters well, is relatively clean burning, accurate and can be used push a wide range of bullet weights over a wide range of velocities. A tall order, I know. That is why I am asking for your help.

    poof...

Blue dot is prolly most common.
I've had failures in cold weather with standard primers, and compressed blue dot, though.
I think power pistol is ok with standard primers.
Power pistol is for full power 357SIG, 10mm, .40 and 9mm.
I know I'm prolly missing a few calibers, but I'd say it isn't very versatile.

I've found AA 7 to be a very nice powder, except that it is so fine that it leaks around the "elastomeric" seal on my Lee powder thrower.

Power Pistol is the best I've found for strong 10mm loads and is in fact the only powder I use in my 10.

It is incredibly clean burning and produces powerful yet accurate rounds.

It is not, however, all that good for light loads. But um, I don't load my 10 light.

I have experimented to see how much power I can get out of 10mm with both a stock Glock 20 and with a Barsto barrel.

    1) 800X
    2) Power Pistol

LONGSHOT, 3N37, Blue Dot, N105, AA#9, H110, and STEEL are not as good.

Here is a picture of 30-30 brass turned into 10mm, but I couldn't get anymore power than normal brass before the case bulged.

800X is the best powder for power, period.
Power Pistol is the best "range load" powder, but lacks high-end steam. AA9 is for someone who has to have a meterable powder, but doesn't need max loads.
    800X for me.

I knew I was missing a powder when I constructed the poll...I didn't intend to have an "other" category. I wanted to add 800X.

The only knock on 800X seems to be metering. Is it bad enough to discourage one from using it?

    Thanks for the replies.

I'm mostly interested in making economical, safe, range loads. I've been using Universal Clays but would like a powder that fills more of the case without increasing the weight too much so it stays economical. How does the bulk density of these powders compare?
