Semi-auto a Ruger 10/22. Bolt action a CZ. I wouldn't pick either of your choices.

Anything is better than the wildcat unless the wildcat is free.

I'd go Savage A22 between the two.

Of those 2 I'd get the Savage.

I voted Wildcat because I got one and am satisfied with the rifle. It is not my CZ 457 Varmint and the same level of performance was never expected. Savage makes good, accurate rifles, or so were all those I shot, but I usually find them just way too ugly. Know that the Wildcat is made from a lot of plastic and that it's accuracy is lightyears from stellar.

For a cheap 22 I think I would choose the wildcat. Have neither but looks like the savage would require a scope.

Between those, A22. But I wouldn't give $100 for either

OP is shopping modern semi auto .22s, not vintage centerfire leverguns.

    If there's a Rural King near by, $243 for Ruger 10/22 - https://www.rkguns.com/ruger-10-22-22-lr-carbine-rifle-1103-hardwood-stock.html

    And $279 at Cabela's - https://www.cabelas.com/shop/en/Ruger-1022-Carbine-Semi-Auto-Rimfire-Rifle?irclickid=XV6zWZ10mxyIW4o3FTzRaQfnUkG2oI0V2T4jSY0&irpid=1450150&irmpname=Apps%2047%20Inc&sharedid=&irgwc=1&WT.mc_id=ir1450150&WT.tsrc=AFF&cm_soc=AFF

If those are the only options and there's zero possibility of anything else, I'd have to pick Savage. I'd contemplated picking one up for the $99.96 or whatever Walmart was selling them for just to see if it might shoot.

This comparison video of A22 and 10/22 Target showed A22 producing smaller 50 yard groups

Wow. Surprisingly so many think the Winchester is garbage? Am I missing something?

I agree with the video on the savage mags being a pain to load. I have a loader for my 10/22 mags. But it don't work with my savage mag.
I have theA22 target version. It would not be fair for me to put it against my 10/22. I love my 10/22 for hikes.

I don't know if the Winchester is garbage or not. My vote is based entirely on what I've seen out of Winchester .22 rifles made in the last 30 years vs. Savage .22 rifles of the last 30 years.

My only experience with both is just handling them in the store but I wouldn’t give $50 for the winchester. Savage builds a very accurate 22 for the money based on all their other models I’ve shot.

You read the reviews for both of these and you can get the idea that both have their place. One just said that "lots of 22 rifles are trying to be as good as the Ruger 10/22 has over a half century". I would bet you would be pleased with either. Winchester gets the most vocal opinion because sometimes their .22's are not quite up to the task. For me, I have a 10/22, CZ597, and a big bunch of old Mossbergs.

Neither, not a fan of Savage anything really (personal preference) and really don't like their extractors on the rimfires I've used of Savage, my FVSR (and probably my last Savage) was in constant need of cleaning and re-tensioning the c-clip to get to extract.

Don't know anything about the Winchester personally but if it were my money and looking for a semi-auto 22, I would wait and buy a Ruger, Thompson TCR/22, or a vintage JM Marlin 60 rather than those two.

Savage! I love my inexpensive Axis in .223, shoots MOA for me with a Nikon scope & shooting sticks.. They are my go-to rifle company.

Recent shots taken with the Wildcat. Will have to set my scanner to JPG...

Edited to add: 50 yards, 0 Celsius, 1 mph wind.

Those group's are enough for me to stay way from a Wildcat.

As I said, not accurate. Shooting tomorrow, will post different ammo groups. Might be less terrible. Or not!
