how many [mixed caliber] handgun cases are in your average five gallon bucket?

For those of you who use the shellsorter.com product, about how long does it take to sort through a bucket of mixed cases and get whatever steel cases there are out?

Impossible to guess with any accuracy, with mixed cases, but a shot in the dark would be 5000/8000 depending on how many .32s versus .45 colts:D

Isn't that like saying: How much change($$) is in a 5gal jug?

It depends on the amount of pennies, nickles, dimes, quarters, etc.

yes, its just like the coin question.

a rough estimate of what a typical five gallon bucket would have, with a normal distribution of cases... a whole bunch of 9mm and 40, 45acp, .38 spl. 357 mag, a couple big boys, and scads of .22... I was thinking somewhere in the 5-6k range.

What do we win if we guess correctly? Is it closest, or closest without going over?

A 5 gallon bucket will hold:

    8500-9000 pieces of 9mm
    7000-7500 pieces of 40 S&W
    3800-4000 pieces of 45 ACP

Your "average" 5 gallon bucket isn't used to hold brass, so the "correct" answer would be "none" :D

I took a 5 gal. engine oil bucket, filled it level with 38 special cases. Weighed 1000 cases, weighed the bucket, subtracted bucket and came to the conclusion that it averaged 6200 cases in 5 gal. level full. Paid $25.00 for it!!!!!

Send it to me. I will tell you how many cases were in it and how long it took me to sort the steel out. I'll even return your empty bucket to you.
