I am pretty happy with my Ruger Gunsite Scout; it does lots of things well.

Since I'm quite happy with my Enfield I would continue to be. I would also be fighting the prohibition tooth and nail. Just because I don't happen to like the AR doesn't mean it's removal wouldn't effect me.

A lever gun and a good bolt rifle. And a shotgun too, but with all those you might not even need the AR anyway

I'm glad I'm not prohibited from having ARs, as I really enjoy having them.

If unable to own any, for whatever reason, I'd probably go with an AK. I could get by alright with a standard, stamped AK and a side folder.

Maybe a bullpup like a Tavor or AUG. SCAR 16 would be interesting. The CZ Bren 805 looks cool.

I already substitute a C93 for anything I'd use an AR for anyway...

Some people in ban states use the less evil looking Ruger Mini-14 for 5.56/.223

Mini-14 or M1A. (In fact, I prefer both of those over an AR.) Maybe a Kalashnikov or CETME too.

I am really liking the Tavor. SBR length with 16.4" barrel ballistic performance. Now if you're talking about a ban state situation, well, that's an easy one....a feakin' U-Haul!!!

In that situation I would be shooting my AR's only slightly less than I do now... :( What can I say, I'm a bolt action kind of guy.

    If they do away with..........

............semi's in my state, I'll probably stay happy with my Remmy 7615. I don't have an AR. Never got into them. Have a sporter Saiga that I like. It's in the factory configuration. I like it that way since I have the wood factory stock.

The 7615 is a fun rifle to shoot. :D

Like me. Also Saiga in 5.56/.223: no pistol grip, no flash hider, no bayonet lug = good to go.

I assume the OP's question has to do with the banning of AR's as a class (which would include AK's, etc.).

In that case, the fallback position would be something like a Garand. If all semiautos were banned, then you would go to bolt-action milsurps.

If you are investing in guns with an eye to possible future bans, what you invest in depends on whether you think existing guns would be grandfathered, or not. If you think they will be grandfathered, put your money into AR's. If you think there will be no grandfathering, buy milsurps. Or hedge your bets and buy both.

I guess Captain O(bvious) isn't gonna establish parameters.

What are they... just ARs, California ID'd "assault weapons"... what?

ARs simply don't exist in a hypothetical universe?

Momma won't let me have that particular rifle?

Eugene Stoner became a lumber jack rather than a design engineer?

No AR, then an AK or PTR91. No semi-autos, then a lever action carbine, like a Rossi Model 92. No lever actions, then a bolt action, like a U.S. Model 1903-A3. No bolt actions, then a single shot, like a Ruger No. 1.

^ What about if no single shots??

I actually agree with most of what you said but I'd swap the order of lever rifles and bolt guns. And I really don't see the reason to use a milsurp... My lever gun would be a standard Marlin 336 or Win 1894, and my bolt gun choice would be any of various detachable-mag fed 308s. Tikka. Savage. Ruger. Whatever.
