Information on how violent crime statistics are calculated in other countries?

Does anybody have information and perhaps links on how other countries calculate their violent crime statistics? I know the FBI does their homicide statistics by counting every death not ruled natural (or other like cause) to be a homicide, regardless of the outcome of any trial. I believe some European countries count by the result of any trial - which makes it very susceptible to political manipulation. I would like something to confirm my memory though.

I know Japan plays all kinds of statistical games to make their numbers look good. Mass murder suicides are usually noted under a different catagory, family suicide. Makes their suicide numbers really high, but lowers their murder numbers quite a bit. Would not be surprised if they didn't play other games as well.

The UK calculates murders both as what they were initially recorded as, and what they were finally recorded as, of which the second is (obviously) the most relevant.
