Illinois Concealed Carry Legislation

Gotta give that man credit for being so passionate about the issue and calling out the corrupt Democratic party of Illinois. 'May issue' basically means guns just for the rich and connected. Shall issue is the only way everyday Americans can actually stay arms. In fact, I don't know how 'shall issue' can even be considered Constitutional under the equal protection clause. Our rights are part of our negative liberty, that is, they cannot be restricted or otherwise be given multiple tiers of citizenship by preemptive laws that create 'haves' and 'have nots'. I wish that CA's and other states that are 'may issue' would be challenged all the way up to SCOTUS.

Hey don't associate the awesomeness and entertainment of the useless machine with Illinois politics. Did anybody else notice that when he said there's a countdown to conceal and carry, it almost sounded like that'd be a bad thing?

I have always heard (don't know the stats, but I'm sure someone here has them) that legal CCW holders are statistically very unlikely to misuse their weapon so if that's true I wouldn't worry about a legal gun owner. It'll probably be a crook and the politicians will demand may issue is necessary for safety.

More lunacy from Cook County:

Sheriff Tom Dart said Sunday that he is proposing a concealed-carry gun ordinance to keep Cook County from becoming the “Wild West.”

Dart said he’s worried about a stalemate in the General Assembly on a law to license people to carry concealed guns. If legislators don’t meet a June 9 court deadline to pass such a law, anyone with a state firearm owner’s identification card could legally walk anywhere in public with a concealed weapon, Dart said.

“We would have the Wild West,” he said. “There would be no regulation.”

Dart said he’s proposing a concealed-carry law for Cook County that would take effect only if the General Assembly failed to act by June 9 and the court didn’t extend the deadline.

“I was in Springfield for 11 years,” Dart said of his time as a legislator. “Deadlines sometimes don’t mean anything. We have to be prepared in the event something does not get done.”

Dart’s ordinance would give him the power to approve and reject licenses to carry concealed guns in Cook County. Applicants would have to pay a $300 fee for a license.

A $300 permit for a gun that costs $500? How about proposing a $10,000 driver's license and see how well that would sit?! May issue, not shall issue? How about hell no? Good lord, I hope the time frame runs out on these loonies. While the city and state continues to bleed, they keep diddling their thumbs.

dont be surprised, this is what NYC has so look for them to copy it

Point out to Sheriff Dimwit that here in Arizona we have totally unregulated concealed and open carry - and no unusual problems. In our "wild west" blood isn't running in the streets, as it is where he is. Arizona residents do not have to pay $300 for the right to excercise a Constitutional right.

Maybe if his Department got serious about doing something about Cook County's crime (not gun) problem he wouldn't have to worry about carry permits.

He'd have to arrest the entire Chicago City Council, half of the Chicago Police Department, and probably ultimately, himself.
