Only democratic senators in Chicago can be trusted with carrying firearms...

An Illinois State Senator running to replace Jesse Jackson Jr. in Congress was arrested Wednesday morning after he allegedly tried to bring a gun onto a plane at O’Hare International Airport.

Sen. Donne Trotter (D-Chicago) was charged with a felony count of attempting to board an aircraft with a weapon, according to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office. The charge carries a penalty of 1 to 3 years in jail.

That said, I sincerely hope he gets convicted - though it probably won't cut his political career short.

This is nothing new. "All animals are equal; some are more equal than others" has been the mantra of Chicago and Springfield politics since before I was even born.

I was born and raised in Illinois (just across The River from St. Louis).

I left, as soon as I legally could, and haven't been back except to visit family.

Just looking at the available information, it seems like he really did just forget about it. Who would be stupid enough to think they could make it through the x rays? Now if it turns out it was concealed in a false bottom or inside another object, then I would believe he was trying to sneak it on.

That is like one of my local county commissioner. She wanted concealed firearms banned in my area, with the exception of elected officials. She carries concealed, but said "most normal people cannot be trusted CC'ing a weapon in public. They are too quick to lose their tempers". Needless to say she was caught CC'ing on school grounds(a big no-no in NC) but they dropped the charges(still don't understand how). I just wish our elected officials would realize hey must abid the same laws as the everyday joe.

That's two sources stating he pushed an assault weapons ban in 1989.

But I can't find any information about it, whatsoever.

Anyone know what that's referring to?

OK this guy is an OLD SCHOOL anti-gunner.

I pulled the records for 1989, where representative Trotter pushed :

* Firearms waiting period (which eventually passed, and we still have to adhere to; 72 hours on handguns, 24 hours on long guns)
* Make it illegal for those convicted of domestic battery to own firearms

But I don't see anything about assault weapons (can't find public acts back that far online; information is a bit thin on the internet for '89, for obvious reasons..)

Not just Illinois, we had something similar happen here a few years back.
