    What do you guys think are the chances of this bill actually passing. All the gun makers in this state are threatening to leave and in turn eliminate lots of jobs. Also, theres gonna be a lot of illegal guns that I own if it passes. But back to my main question... What do you think are the chances of this actually passing?

    I would be surprised if it happens right now. I could see it happening some day but not right now. I don't the political scene is right for it. Illinois always seems to be 3 days away from banning all semi-auto rifles/pistols/breathing unfiltered air/using matches to start a fire/eating falling snow...

    Low, right now. They;d have to sneak it past. The Chicago Devilcrats and collar county RINOs are opposed by everybody else on this, and people are watching pretty closely.

    I hope the chances are slim

    I think it's unlikely right now but I think some derivitive of the bill will pass. This really sucks becasue I moved back to IL from the PRK a couple of years ago. Now I am looking at other free states for residence if these silly laws ever pass. What blows my mind is how little press this gets. Most people have no idea that this is even on the table. Many of those who do know about it, and are indifferent, rarely compare the restrictions on the 2nd to restrictions on the 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th, etc. My brother-in-law is a super pinko and he was supportive of the ban, until I compared it to restricting the 1st (Religion)...He was like, "religion doesn't kill like an m16".........After I reminded him of all the wars being waged in the name of religion, he admitted that religion is more dangerous than an m16 and that the AWB in Illinois is bad for the rest of our rights....Now that I got him thinking right, I just have to get an AR in his hands and turn him to the right side.

    Someone in IL said that by the language of this bill, a Garand would be considered a semi-auto assault rifle, hence banned. No idea if that's the case.

    If that's true, that's beyond ironic, ban something so symbolic... :mad:

    There are currently 41 co-sponsers of this bill.

    @Manedwolf:

    Depends on if they consider the garand clip a "detachable magazine". If it is a detachable magazine, then I suppose the M1 Garand would be banned. The M1 Carbine, and M1 Paratrooper would be banned under this statute. The SKS without a fixed magazine installed would also be banned. So would a Ruger 10/22 with an ATI Fiberforce Stock.

    That would affect the Garand, but not because a clip is similar to a magazine.

    The capacity to accept a bayonet would get it, as would the flash suppressor. Also, the M14 basically IS a grenade launcher (turn the gas valve off and insert by hand the correct cartridge to shoot a grenade, put grenade on muzzle of rifle) and I wonder if the Garand has a similar system designed for it...
