Im curious where we're at with vhit powders.

I have tried VV N320 cleanest powder I have ever used and very consistent but where I am VV is always $15.00 to $20.00 a pound more than the Winchester and Ram Shot powders I use, plus I am happy with what I am using. If the price was closer I would use all VV powder I really like there powders but the price keeps me away.

Is the local price inflated for your area? Imr was 75 a pound and vv was 48ish prior to the new year. I hear people saying vv cost more mut was before 2024. That was my inital inclination as well, but the last two ish years have flipped that on its ear.... some don't buy powder currently so I can see if one is already supplied.....

When I tried the N320 it was much more expensive than W231. Like $20 more expensive per pound. I ended up buying a pound on sale with no hazmat, may have been free shipping as well, don't remember now. It ended up being about $10 more than the Winchester, so I took the chance.

I will say I was impressed with how clean it was, but I wasn't impressed enough to spend an extra $10 per pound. IIRC it was $36 vs. $26 for the W231, or about a 30% premium, and that was a sale price.

Now that the prices are closer, and in some cases VV is cheaper, I will buy it again. My problem here is that I've only seen it locally once in five years, so unless I'm willing to drive it ends up being online only. Hazmat and shipping end up bumping the cost too much vs. local alternatives. Sportsman's in Morgantown stocks some VV powder, but that's 170 miles away, so a no-go unless we're up there for a doctors appt.

This is my second issue, I'm pretty well stocked up on all the powders I currently use. I was buying IMR 3031 for $38 a pound, but once it's used up I will be looking hard at the VV powders again.

I think they are definitely inflated and as is WST so I use Tite Group instead. I can buy WST cheaper online than I can get it locally same with primers . But the Hodgdon family of powders locally are competitively priced so for now I will stay with them.
