Finally decided to man up and go back to they way real men shoot: Iron sights over bolt actions in 30 something caliber. So I took a couple of aspirin, blew the dust off some oldies and went down to the farm. Took a 1941 Mod 39 VKT, a BYF 1944 98K, a 1944 Remington 03A3, and a 1944 SMLE MK IV. Fired about forty rounds through each at 100 yds at 8x10" paper on a dark background. The best was the 98K. I has consistent 5" 5 round groups, next was the 03A3. Still good but a little more spread. Next was the Mod 39, last the MKIV. Function in allwas perfect, I shot surplus 8mm, .303, and 7.62x54.
The 30.06 were my own loads. These old guns will shoot. had a good afternoon.

Yes, 'Man Up' IS the right terminology for shooting those old War Horses. My brief time with an 03A3 made me appreciate just how desperate WAR really was. When your weapon is beating the crap out of you, you must be truely desperate to kill the enemy!

My hat is off to you Sir. Well done and carry on!
