I went out to the range yesterday with some 500 S&W handloads loaded with three different weight bullets, chrono'd them and was really astounded and impressed with the results. I thought those who fancy the 500 might have an interest in my results as follows.

    1) 350gr lead gas check, brinell hardness of 22, Montana Bullet Works
    44gr of AA4100 powder
    2173fps

    2) 410gr LGC, MBW
    38gr AA4100
    1883fps

    3) 440gr LGC, unknown manufacture
    35gr AA4100
    1753fps

All bullets were fired from an H&R Handi-Rifle with a 22" barrel.

My shooting buddies like to bring junk iron to the range just to see what kind of destruction the 500 can do. It's a hoot.

Out of a rifle the .500 S&W is a beast. I want one too. I assume the recoil was brutal?

Recoil is stiff.....I wouldn't go so far as to say brutal. On par with a bolt-action 30-06 in my opinion.

Never had so much fun and conversation from a $300 dollar gun.
