I have my Gerber Mk II on the front of my body armor. A buddy of mine was sliding the vest into the back of out truck, and it sheared off the snap on the strap that goes over the hilt. I said a very naughty word, but it still functions, just the front of the snap is half off.

So I emailed Gerber CS from my DOD account, and told them the story, played the deployed soldier card, and they offered to ship me one immediately, it was out the next day, no charge. I just hope I get it before big green decides to move me again.

It is just a shame they won't make new production ones that are not serrated!

The MkII serrated was ok but I came across a MkI at Ft Benning PX in I believe 1966. The Knife was made for my hand, for more than 20 years it was my best friend. Wife and I were helping to train Explorer Scouts (Sheriffs Offfice Search and Rescue) in the late 1980s. One guy came back to see us 10 years later. He was wearing 3 stripes, Army, and wanted to tell us thank you for our efforts. I went in and brought out my Mk I and asked him if he had ever seen one. He rolled it in his hand without thinking and brought it to guard. I gave it to him along with the boot sheath. My wife threw in $100 and told him to find private instruction in knife. Four trips into the sandbox later his retirement is now coming up. He called our daughter and told her to ask me if I wanted the knife back. I told him to pass it on which he has done. This knife, GERBER MkI has now been through six deployments with more ahead. Gerber Mk I, best blade I ever held.

I bought a MK II back in 1987 to replace a MK I that was stolen from me and carried it for years in the Army. I even had it engraved "American Express II" (the MK I was engraved American Express also) since I never left home without it.

My brother thought he was a circus knife thrower and broke the hand guard off on one side. I thought it was ruined, but a few years later I was sending a Gerber Backup sheath in for repair and decided to send the MK II in also in hopes that maybe they would send me a recondictioned one to replace it.

To my suprise they were able to replace the handle and even re-shaped the point (brother also broke about 5/8" off the point) and re-sharpened the blade. All at no charge.
