I had expected the "Safe Kids" magazine that got sent to the house to be utterly hysterical about firearms. I was pleasantly surprised to find that they were relatively neutral, and reasonably fair. Firearms were only mentioned once, in the article on "home safety checklist", and it was composed of about 3 sentences, which I approximately quote from memory:

-----------
Firearms:

Children as young as 3 can pull the trigger on some makes of firearms. Firearms need to be locked and stored out of childrens reach, separate from ammunition. Do not store firearms in drawers and closets, they will be found by inquisitive youngsters.
-----------

That was it. No threats of dire consequences, no appeal to the 13kids/day "factoid", no teary eyed testimonials, just simple facts, and reasonably solid advice.

Hmph. Imagine that. A parent's magazine about kid's safety, endorsed by the usual list of suspects, deciding not to go for hysteria.

Anyway, I just thought I oughta share a case of non demonization. I think the sands are shifting in our favor, and we're going to be seeing a lot more signs of neutrality, or at least failure to demonize.
