"Independence" ammo

I swung by Sportsman's Warehouse today and saw that they have some 130 gr, FMJ .38 Special ammo for $8.50 per box of 50. This is the cheapest .38 Special ammo that I've seen in this area since I've been buying it. Just wondered if there are those of you out there who have shot this ammo, and what your assessment of it is. Thanks for any insight you'd like to offer.

BTW, this is Independence brand ammo that is produced by Ammunition Accessories, Inc. in Lewiston, Idaho, rather that somewhere in Brazil...

I've used some of their budget 380 stuff. One FTF out of a box in a very reliable gun.

I'd buy it again in a pinch. I prefer Winchester White Box, Blazer Brass and Monarch Green Box.

I have used modest quantities in .40 (when I had a .40) and .45, no problems.

Ive fired 100 rounds of the independance 95 grain for a .380 and every round fired flawlessly

Don't know about the other calibers, but the case of Independence .45 ACP/230 FMJ that I bought didn't have jacketed bullets. They were copper-washed swaged lead. The ammunition worked perfectly in my pistols, and was accurate enough to engage the falling plate machine from 10 yards out to 25 yards. Didn't chronograph any of it, but going on seat-of-pants "feel" it seemed to be pretty hot with recoil levels on a par with my go-to reload consisting of a 230-grain jacketed bullet and 6 grains of Unique...which is a
USGI Hardball equivalent that clocks about 840 fps in a 5-inch barrel.

Overall, not bad ammo for the money. If the price was right, I'd buy more...but for about the same money, I can get Mag-Tech or Blazer Brass...for those rare occasions that I actually buy commercially produced pistol ammo.

As a side-note...I've seen an odd lot here and there of Blazer Brass with the copper-washed bullets. Most of it comes with true jacketed RN...but not all of it.

the owner of the range I work part time at sells tons of independance. he has told us from day 1 that independance is made by federal...dunno if its true but its cheep and runs pretty good in all my pistols

I don't see where you get "remanufactured" out of that. New, new, new all the way through the press release.

Early Independence was from CBC, makers of Mag-Tech, but distributed by ATK/Federal/CCI. Seems like it has gotten cheaper for them to load it in-house.

Yes it is. I see that I've shot four boxes of 45 acp with no problems. The address is right for CCI/Speer and federal is under the ATK banner too. the individuals at a local gunshop lable it federal then call it Speer apparently just to confuse the customers and make them go away.

It seems in line with most other ball loads. Groups were a big on the large size from my 1911s but in line with expectations from this revolver.

I shoot 130gr .38 spcls in my old colts and have had no problems. The accuracy isn't match wad-cutter good, but it is more than good enough for practice and plinking. I don't think it is re-manufactured since they seem to use their own brass stamped *I*. It seems pretty clean too.

Used it in my Glock 17, no problems yet. Only been through two or three boxes of it, though.

I've shot somewhere between 500 and 1000 rounds in 38 and 357 with no problems. I'd buy more but I can't find it around here.
