I was told when I renewed my CCL in the past that as long as I had the receipt, or a printout nowadays, that I would be fine still carrying. I have had the lifetime one since it came out, well worth the few extra dollars to not be renewing it every 4 years.

Risking a violation based on advise from the web is not a good idea. You should contact Indiana's issuing agency.

    What Dog Soldier said.

In Texas you've be in violation. About ten years ago DPS was dragging their feet with renewals, TSRA with the help of the Sheriff of Bucks' County PA, stepped up and he'd send you a PA out of state permit for the normal $25 fee in a week with a photo copy of your non-expired CHL so you'd stay legal if your renewal didn't arrive in time. I took them up on it, "wasted" $25 as my renewal arrived about a week before the expiration date. The PA permit was good for like five years.

Why wait until the last minute to renew your permit?

It happens. Mine ran out while I was in between houses. I had sold my home and was waiting to take possession of my new home in a different County but still in Indiana.

The sheriff's office told me that as long as I had my receipt, I was good to go. Indiana is still pretty much a common sense state. If I wasn't doing anything to draw attention to myself, I am guessing 90% of cops wouldn't make me jump through hoops.

The the case I mention with DPS, the law said you couldn't renew more than XXX days before expiration (it was 90 days then if my memory is correct), they were dragging their feet and many folks didn't get the renewals after 120 days which made TSRA step in to find a work around. I believe the law has been changed and that CHL fees can be used for nothing but processing CHL applications and renewals.

Mine expired while I was overseas (2009). Had to wait until it was processed before I was legal. The sheriff (Harrison Co., IN) did say, however, that he would not arrest and the prosecutor would not charge, given the circumstances, but I chose not to take the risk. Your case is different, you renewed before it expired. Call the ISP and get the answer. I got mine in two weeks that time. And I agree, the lifetime license is the way to go. No more renewals!

The Sheriffs dept when I renewed my license. They said as long as I had the receipt as proof that the renewal was in process that I was legal. The renewal process goes through our local law enforcement agency, whether police or sheriffs dept and then to state police where it is processed. If denied for what ever reason, they are supposed to notify you.

That happens and it is to bad the people who are charged with implementing the CCW program are not more on the ball.
I live in Wisconsin and they mailed my renewal about 2 1/2 months before it was due to expire. I went online the same day
as my notification arrived and renewed for $22. In about 7 days I have my new CCW permit in hand.

I lost 2 1/2 months of my renewed 5 year permit by renewing it early, but I though it was worth it to avoid any potential problems renewing it at the last minute.

Hope they resolve your problem soon.

Some issues are better answered by the source .After all nothing more than a phone call is required! Facts over" I think every time."

To be honest, I'd want more than an anonymous answer on the phone. Three calls could result in three different answers. Email the question, save the answer, and you have something in writing you can refer back to if necessary.

It appears that there is a 30 day grace period according to 35-47-2-6

Indiana law states that if the license is expired then it is no longer valid, but the permit can still be renewed. If the renewal is submitted within 30 days of the expiration date, the current permit is extended until the renewal application is either approved or denied.

You can get a lifetime concealed carry permit in Indiana. Why do it any other way, and not have to worry about having to do it every four years?

In North Carolina, it is expressly forbidden to carry concealed if the present permit expires before the renewal card is in the bearer's possession. It doesn't matter if you've applied for renewal, you must be in possession of a valid permit. NC permits last five years, and generally take about 4-6 weeks to process when applied for.
