Indiana stole his 32

Wonderful

Thanks jdl357!

I guess since I started this thread and I live in the area, I'll take care of it. I'll call the guy and arrange to take him to or meet him at a local gun shop. We'll pick out a nice revolver that his is comfortable with. I'll pay for it. I'll take pictures of everything (including the reciept), post them and then you guys can send me your pledges. If you don't trust me or feel that you should send me any money, then don't, no big deal to me either way. I just want to help the guy out. I'll post the photos and pm my address to the people on the list when the deal is done. Thanks for all the interest in this.

I sent you a pm about where and how to send the money order. Let me know.

I will send my money order before you go through with it, just let me know.

I'd be more inclined towards a .38spl rather than a .32 and a 4" barrel rather than a snubbie if it's going to be kept at home.

I have no experience with Rossi. I've had no problems with my Taurus revolvers. I can recommend them highly. You might talk to a local gunshop and explain the situation. They might be able to steer you towards something appropriate in the right price range. If you can find a decent Smith or Ruger in the right price range go for it. One advantage of you getting it first would be that you could test it for function.

I know none of you guys know me, but I'm a lurker.

Put me down for $10.

I would give more, but since I'm kind of "underemployed", in school, married with one child and another on the way, it's all I can do. PayPal preferred.

E-mail me when this goes through, as I don't lurk too often.

Thanks

I am keenly interested in how this turns out. I'm in for a penny, in for a pound, as I've stated. Let's see if so called "friends of like mind" are true, or is this just the internet? :scrutiny:

Hello, I just joined the forum because of this thread. I think this guy is taking one up the shorts, and I'm in for $20 to help him out. Since I'm new here, can someone please let me know the best way to make my donation?

Thanks.

P.S. I usually carry my Sig, but stories like this make me want to carry my Makarov. Losing a $150 Mak to the great state of Indenial would suck, but donating a $600 Sig to an evidence box would send me over the edge.

Well, if he lived near me he'd already have a .357 mag revolver. I think I'd charge him about $1.00 for it!

Ok, I just got finished arguing with the wife all night about this. She is worried that I am putting myself (and her and the kids) at a risk or liability (she's a lawyer). "What if the guy is paranoid and shoots the mailman?" Yada, yada, yada. So I guess I will now crawl away and hide, never to read or post here again. I would suggest that we just send the donations directly to him and let him decide what to do with it. Robert Birtwhistle 738 3rd st, Mishawaka, Indiana 46544. Sorry about this.

Her strongest point was that he figured out how to purchase a gun once before, he should be able to figure it out again. If he has the $ and he can't take a taxi to a store, fill out 2 almost identical questionairs, and find his way home, then maybe he can't figure out when to use deadly force (or more importantly when not to use deadly force). I told her that we wanted pictures. She said "picture this, yada, yada, yada and we loose the house". "Picture this, yada, yada, and you sleep on the couch forever".
Ok, flame away, I can take it.

we can still do this

Hi jdl357

I understand your wife has those concerns, and being a lawyer, well, that adds even more to the situation. I would do what makes for peace in your home and family first. No problem.

My desire is to see this man get a gun, and maybe we can get the gun store in that area to help out with doing that, if you or someone else on the forum can't go personally.

My other desire has been to see some good publicity come out of helping this man out, bringing the light of public opinion to bear on what the State has done to him, leaving him pretty much defenseless by taking his pistol. Something that makes absolutely no sense to me since he did what he did to defend himself. The guy fired two times through the door to keep the intruder out. And only after the intruder got through the door, ignoring the warning shots, did he kill the man in self defense. Only a fool would question would try to question what that man did. There are many fools, I know.

And, the idea of getting some photos of helping him out was to make good use of this story. It is the kind of thing that could get picked up by other magazines, newspapers, etc. Think of all the gun magazines, shooter web sites, and ? , that might make good use of this publicity.

My personal opinion is that too many times we try to win the war for gun rights by fighting about ideologies, which all have their place, but there are times when one can tell a story, a real life story, and move some people to action because of a specific incident. No one needs to debate any theory in this case.

I think that is what happened to the lady whose parents were killed in Texas. She went on a crusade to fight gun control laws because she saw her parents murdered by an evil man. She told a story, and continues to tell a story, and people were moved, and are still moved to action. That is what I'm referring to in this case. The publicity would bring lots of mileage for the RKBA cause.

That is where she tells her story about what happened. And then near the end, she tells another story.

Dr. Gratia, "That's basically it, let me, - let me make one last - uh - little bit - OK - let's forget that scenario - You have a twenty- one year old daughter - this will the last little thing I want to say - she drives to college everyday on backroads - we have a lot of those in Texas, I'm sure you have quite a few here - she has some car trouble - and it's on one of those roads where somebody drives by every five minutes - she is at the mercy of whoever happens to drive by next! OK - now - 'Bubba' drives up behind her - I hope nobody in here is named 'Bubba' - drives up behind her in a pick- up truck - and he gets out with a baseball bat - a big old knife in his pocket - gets out with a baseball bat and starts bashing her windshield in. Now - your twenty- one year old daughter is your only daughter. Would you like for her to have a gun in her car? That's all I have to say - do you have any questions?"

Let's change the scenario. You have an elderly man, your father, and he is living alone. He has told you that there have been attempts to break into his house. The police have been notified but they can't be there 24/7. But late one night, he hears an intruder actually make it into the house. Would you like for him to have a gun in his house?

JDL,
Anyone can sue anyone else for anything. Thats what makes America great and lawyers rich.

But what kind of liability is any one of us really going to have over this? Even if he turns out to be a psycho there are plenty of other deep pockets way ahead of us: the gun store, the police for not arresting him, etc etc. Arguing with a lawyer is a no-win however. But I think you could make the donation anonymously.

My suggestion is 1) someone contact Smith or Taurus and see what they will do for a photo op like this. If the answer is nothing then 2) take the guy to a store in the area, have him pick something out, the rest of us mail our checks to the store and when they've arrived and we've paid for it have him go back and collect the gun.

Do we care what form we send our contributions in? I was thinking of getting him a postal money order. Just thinking it might make it easier for him.

Soo.... are we sending payments to El Tejon or somewhere else?

I've been meaning to meet El T in person anyway. :D

Send to him

Maybe it would make a bigger impact to send the money directly to him, instead of a mediator. The reason I think this is he would more directly see the number of people reaching out to help him. Plus, any left over funds - after getting a replacement gun, could be used by him to fight getting his original gun back. (Or, for whatever he wants.) Even if he doesn't get the original back, it would still cost the PD/PA/community that kept it some time & money just to keep it.

In anycase, if there is some 'official' concensus on the method of collection/distribution, I'm in for 10.

Carry on!

just my thoughts

I'm sending a Money Order to El Tejon, and he has offered to send a check to the individual. I like that idea, because all the money will get there at the same time, via the check, and he can go alone, or with help, to pick up a gun. If the money gets there sporadically, he might end up cashing one or more of the money orders for something else. He might, I didn't say he would. :D

I think it is a great idea for the man to see how many from this forum are interested in his getting a replacement gun. I think I might send him a card or something to wish him well, and maybe mention that I'm part of this forum.

And, is there any way at all to get someone to go and take a few digital pictures? Maybe someone in that area, El Tejon?, could contact a local newspaper reporter, someone you might now who would be willing to take a few pictures for publicity. Maybe there is a college student studying photography or journalism, someone who is interested in hunting and self defense, whatever!!, who might be in that area.

I'm studying computer technology in the area, does that count? :D

On a side note I can also use the university's video cam's...

go for it Nick1911!

Of course! :D You can make a documentary out of it, became famous, who knows???

I'm all for it. I really do hope you can work it out.

I'm sending a money order today to El Tejon.

El Tejon is accepting the checks or money orders, so contact him if you need clarification. I did and things are fine.

The address (include the P.O. Box) is next to my smiling mug.

And I think Nick1911 is going to make a special effort, sure hope so, to video some of this for the forum here, and hopefully for later publicity.
