Indoor range in your house

Wouldn't be too difficult to build an indoor range for pellet guns. I've shot my Beeman P3 in the basement.

I have shot pellet guns & .22 rat shot guns in my concrete basement.
I found that rat shot hurts to walk on bare footed.

My friend built one that is 50 yards long from an 8' culvert pipe; on the plans it was listed as a storm shelter and wine cellar; access hidden behind a moveable bookcase with an elevator going down. LOUD does not begin to make the point, even a whisper echoes like crazy.

I was watching a show that featured Dolly Parton, her and her husband are shooters. They have an underground shooting range at their home also.

My dad used to have a side job cleaning up houses that were flood damaged, or where the owner had died and the next of kin or the estate needed everything emptied out. When I was a grade schooler I spent a weekend helping him on a job where it was the latter case. I remember being in awe at the bullet trap / range in the windowless, concrete basement. The setup was a lot more austere than this, being a 40s/50s home, and I wasn't experienced enough at the time to check to see if there was any special ventilation setup. Very cool idea though.

On a past thread about home ranges on THR, I remember another member saying that there was an indoor range at 10 Downing Street when Churchill was the PM. I've not independently verified this, but found it interesting.

When I was a kid my dad and I would shoot pellet guns in the basement.

We once shot .22 gallery rounds into the (purchased) bullet trap we used for the pellet gun. But we only did that for one session and I didn't think anything about the fact we never did it again. Years later, after both parents had died, my sister told me my mom was FURIOUS when we did that. I guess Dad got a talking to.....which he never mentioned to me. LOL

I frequently look at house for sale in the area / around Springfield, MO.

Too rich for me but this $2.7mil house has both an indoor shooting range and indoor pool.

Whenever I drive by a really big mansion-style home my first thought is always 'I wonder how much they pay in property taxes?'. My second thought is 'Gosh, imagine having to keep that place heated and cooled'.

I'm guessing that once a certain price threshold is reached, the wealth of the owner has to be large enough where questions like that become irrelevant. Akin to "if you ask how much it is you can't afford it".

In the olden days you could buy Metal traps to retro fit your house with for an in door range. There were several flavors of these and they are cool..

This x-ring was made in the 30s and will eat pistols rounds from 45 acp on down. I would not push it to magnums. But have read of accounts of people shooting these at 100 yards with 30-06s.. Would not want to do that either.

The trap takes the round in and then let it round spin itself out of energy in the tail.. The bullets look it when they are done.

The tag hanging on it is a shipping tag to the Vonnegut hardware store in Indianapolis Indiana.

The taxes on that house are ~$24K/year; I'll bet the utilities aren't too far behind

While pretty cool the zillow estimate for monthly payment is actually more than my total payments for the entire year so it is slightly out of my price range.

Mine too! The 40 acres it comes with is a nice bonus. I'll just have to suffer through with my 10 acres and outdoor shooting range.

I thinking that might've been owned by someone in the Bass Pro upper management, if not Johnny Morris, possibly someone related to him.
Here's Bass Pro's VP of Architecture's house:

No shooting range but it looks like a Bass Pro Store inside. I'd poke an eye out on all of those tree branches.

Out in the Texas countryside, there's a quick way to tell--If they have a single-wire fence up around the house to keep the livestock away, they are using an Ag Exemption to reduce the county property tax.
At least for places under about 50-60 acres.
Much over a hundred acres and the houses get smaller and less ostentatious (and vehicle sheds get larger [:)])

That's not bad, check out some Illinois property taxes....
Mine are 12.5k per year for 1 acre with a modest house. But I need to escape Illinois.

I'm at $950 for property taxes for my 3/2 house on 10 acres in Missouri.
If I had 12 acres, property tax would drop to around $300.
