Initials or names on your gun

Swiss army rifles used to have the user’s name on a tag under the bat plate.....as fun to buy a C&R and see if the tag is still there. Have contacted dependents of the original user.

Also. I have a sks oil pouch with a name and year written under it. Plus a Russian mag mag with initials on it. I'll up some pics later.

Yeah, I've got a K31 with a little card stock info slip under the butt plate.
That's what prompted me to put similar slips under the butt plates or in similar spaces of many of my other firearms.
I didn't feel right about putting one of my little slips in the K31, though.

My case is minor - and possibly advantageous. I came across a rather nice 2" M&P a year back in a not-at-all secret large chain store. The price surprised me ; I determined it had something to do with the initials that were crudely scratched of the wooden butt stock. I came away with a nice prize - something on my bucket list , in fact , for a very reasonable $469.
A bit of bronze wool , elbow grease and hand rubbed polyurethane/teak oil mix and I was good to go. Happy , too.

Interestingly , the naked eye in natural light sees no remaining evidence , but a clear magnified image shows a trace. And - the trace indicates a different middle initial. Haunted , perhaps? I have quit while I'm ahead.

This might not be quite what the OP had in mind , but it should be fun for some. Pictured is a detail of my 1943 DSC S&W 4" .38 special , phosphate finish. (Think Victory revolver ... almost)
Who can guess or identify the markings?

The only guns I have with identifying marks are my SBR and a custom bolt action rifle I built for my son as a coming of age gift when I think he's ready. The serial number is his initials and birthdate.

I have a colt M1917 revolver with a mysterious 9 digit number scratched into side of it. Someone's SSN I assume.
