Installing Hogue Grips

Hello... I was going to install some Hogue grips (Hogue part #40010) on my Smith and Wesson 411. Is there a certain direction I need to push the pin out that holds the original grips on? If I'm looking at the gun from the rear (as if I'm aiming the gun, looking through the rear sights at the front sights) do I drift the pin out from my right to left or left to right? I don't want to make any marks on the gun. Do I absolutely use a brass punch or is steel okay? Any advice from anyone who has installed these on a 3rd Generation .40 Smith and Wesson would be greatly appreciated.
