Can I please get some advice on where I could obtain drawings on how to field strip a Colt .45 ACP? Thank you, gentlemen.

The real idiot mark would be on your face if you don't screw the recoil spring plug onto the spring to keep the plug from flying.

Assuming that the plug has the punch-cut so it can be threaded onto the spring...which most lack these days. I think that Colt has recently returned to making that cut on the 5-inch guns.

Yes they have, my 2011-manufactured Rail Gun came from the factory with the standard GI guide rod (all the Rail Guns do, not sure about other models as my 2009 LW Commander has a FLGR) and the recoil spring plug does indeed have the notch to hold it on the recoil spring. It's pretty much a Godsend.

And while you're busy not pointing the recoil spring plug at your face, don't point it at the lights over your bench either. . . .
