I recently bought this rifle for a decent price at a Cabela's and I noticed it had this rail that doesn't appear to be factory. I'm unsure what's it for or why someone mounted it on the stock but it looks interesting. I also noticed the stock looks different from the other savage model 19s I've seen on the internet as well. If someone can tell me more about this rifle that would be great. The rail is also marked M.H.Canjar Denver. Colo.

The rail is for a palm rest for match shooting.
The multitude of holes allows for custom fitting the rest for the shooter's style and stature.
Particularly useful in both kneeling and offhand.

The Canjar is not factory, as I do not believe they were in business when the gun was made.
From the apparent age of the inletting for the rail, it's my guess the factory rail was removed to allow for the
    modern design of the Canjar.

Not up on Savage .22's, but who's make is the receiver sight?
    Thanks for sharing,

It's a redfield sight, I did notice most other Savage 19s had a different rear sight but I did see a couple with the same sight as mine. From the looks of it, I would think the sight I have is better. I'll post pictures of the rear sight later today.

From pictures I can find, that is a replacement stock with a re-replacment accessory rail.
Replacement sight, too; in 1939 you could have the house peep sight or a Lyman.

TI am pretty sure "hand stop" is the right term for the accessory that goes with that rail.

Yeppers, but a palm rest is also used. Two different animals. I used a hand stop in prone, and a palm rest while standing way back in high school…both should work on the same rail (different times, though)

IMG_9661.jpg That is a Savage 19-33 NRA Match rifle with some user modifications, especially the rail. Sights could be most anything available over time that fit the users preference. It is the new and improved version of the original 1919 rifle. I have the same rifle and it is a "tack driver" judging from yesterday's range trip. Mine is missing the front and rear sights, had Unertl scope blocks installed and currently wears a nice Weaver K-10 scope. It had a vintage Weaver side mount (shown) when I got it that was quickly replaced.
