The thing about pistol wounds is that ones to the right spots are fatal. The thing from there is that the smaller the caliber, the less the damage, and therefore, the longer it takes for someone to die from the wounds. You can shoot a man in the chest with a 22 and it will kill him, but expect it to take anywhere from a matter of minutes to days. However, a larger caliber, such as 455 Webley, will have a bigger wound channel, put more energy into the target, and make a bigger blood channel. Therefore, it will kill the target more quickly with the same shot placement.
 
In Honolulu a troop got out of a UH-1 helicopter which had landed on the side of a hill. The troop ran "up hill" and the rotor blade took his head off a cleanly as any guillotine. The body continued to run another 4 steps before falling.
