It looks like Coonan Arms is back with its unique .357 and .41 Magnum autoloaders.

Anyone know anything about this?

Anyone own either gun? If yes, what do you think?

I've never even examined one, but am curious about possibly buying one.

I had one back in the late 80s, "B" model IIRC.

It was well made and functioned ok, but the grip was too looonnngg for my stubby fingers.

Was fun to shoot .357 out of a 1911 pattern pistol, tho'.

If I'm going to shoot 1911s, the standard grip frame is my preference, and the .38 Super is a close second to the .357.

FWIW

I had 2 Coonan 357 mag autos and they worked very well.......I just didn't like the way they threw the cases out after firing them, they would land about 25 feet away, and I got tired of chasing down the brass for reloading.........so, I went to a Ruger GP-100, being the lazy guy I am..............

Someone I know sent gun back for repair and when the company folded he never got it back. I would never do business with a crowd like that!:fire:

mine will push a 125 jhp at over 1700 fps.i only have to mags for it.they run 100 if you can find them.the mags that is.very accurate.

I had a .357 Model B about 10 yrs. ago. It was an extremely well-made and refined competition-style product (3 lb. trigger). However, as nice as the gun was, in several months of steady experimentation I never could get it to be reliable for more than 3 shots. I did the graphite lube thing they specify. I sent it back to the factory twice for repair, but both times they told me there was nothing wrong with it. It never worked and was traded off.

It was the least accurate single-action I've ever owned, getting maybe 5" to 6" groups benched at 25 yards.

Someday I'd like to have another that functions as otherwise it was a very nice and enjoyable gun to shoot. A while back, Gun Tests reviewed either 2 or 3 Coonan autos and they didn't work for them either as I recall.

Well, the owner of Coonan used to shoot at a indoor gun range that I go to every once in awhile, and he was at the top of the list in competition using his Coonan.........the ones I had were very accurate, and I wish I had them back after seeing how the prices are really high on them now at gun shows.........

The site doesn't say that at all. There's a terse anecdote regarding their demise. He's simply listing the fact he can perform gunsmithing on his former company's products.:(
