is it blashpemy to put a scope on a henry pump .22?

ive killed many a squirrel with the irons, but im tempted to put a scope on it just to see what it can do. anyone tried this? or would that be considered a generally stupid idea?

If it could help you shoot better and you feel fine about it, go ahead. OTOH, you might consider an aperture sight.

I've seen it done. But you and your smith need to be aware that the receiver is very soft and does not take threading well. The trick to scoping this gun is all in the mount, and using a lightweight scope.

Sounds like #8 screws would work better than the usual #6...

Bear in mind that the receiver is (I'm pretty sure) aluminum, not steel. I own a Henry Golden Boy .22; the receiver is aluminum alloy.
