I had a thought to put an image of Old Glory on white pistol grips. But then I thought that since it would be gripped by my hand when in use it might be considered disrespectful.

What is proper flag etiquette with something like this?

I'd say Gus called it. The flag itself is to never be used as clothing or decoration, but I can't find anything saying that a representation of the flag is inappropriate. If in doubt, consider an image of red, white and blue bunting. (blue on top)

Here. Nothing specific to your question, but you are not using the flag as clothing, nor as drapery, it would be as previously mentioned, a representation of the flag.

If you have doubts (I would understand, I can get my panties in a bunch over stuff like this sometimes), then do a simple color theme.

But I say go for it, and naturally, post pics, or it didn't happen!:)

Union Pacific Railroad went through this a few years back when they were placing an image of the US flag on their locomotives. Display of an image of the flag is considered artwork, and the display etiquette does not apply.

Never mind what others think. But make sure to always wash your hands before handling the gun.

Put the image of it on the ENTIRE gun if you like.

That might actually look pretty cool, now that I think of it.

Here's my 2% of a buck...

Old Glory is flown...not worn...unless it's on a military uniform. Any other display is disrespectful to the men and women who died under it, and is unacceptable. Pictures and paintings of the flag displayed in the proper manner, and tastefully on the uniforms of civilian police officers who have served are exceptions.

I agree with 1911tuner. The image of the American flag gets thrown around too much these days. I think it's gaudy the way we put the flag on anything and everything nowadays.

The representation of the flag on US military uniforms gets dragged through the mud, sand, etc everyday. On the grips of a firearms our country gives us the right to own sounds appropriate o me.

This makes sense to me.
Yes, I would do it out of respect, but it would still be an adornment,
Seems to me that the flag should not be used to beautify something, even if respectfully done.

You're not really wrapping the gun in a flag, you are just adding the image of the flag to the grips. Think of a piece of art representing the flag.

I think it would be fine as long as it is not in the retreat orientation. Which means, stars forward on both sides.

^^^What this guy said.

I paint little American flags on my bullets. So if you ever get the chance to be shot by me, you can feel patriotic because of it.

Its too bad people don't give the Constitution, which guarantees our rights, the same hallowed respect that we give the US Flag.

Your talking about an image or a depiction of the US flag, not an actual US flag. Do it up and post pics.

This is an 'eye of the beholder' type of thing. If you think it is disrespectful, then obviously it is. If you think it isn't at all disrespectful, well... check with someone who has seen their buddy breath his last on a battlefield. I'll go with whatever they tell you.

Given the number of 'patriotic' folks who drove around with flags strung off their car antennas until there was nothing left but a nubbin in the wake of 9/11 (sanctimonious nationalism event of the century), I'd say the two subjects track pretty closely.

I've had jerks question my patriotism while driving a car with flag seat covers. Or people who fly their flag in the dark in the rain (any day all day and all night, because they really just aren't thinking about it, at all).

The flag has been used as a club with which we bash our political opponents for as long as I can remember.

I don't take much stock in symbols. I prefer to address what underlies them, instead. But if you're going to fly a flag, you do it the right way. That does not mean plastering it all over every everything in an effort to show everyone else what a great nationalist you are. You do it according to this. And if it isn't mentioned here, you don't do it.
