Can't see it as disrespectful. Now if you got the American flag on toilet paper or something like that where the use is disrespectful then yeah i would say it is a bad thing. However, on the grip of a firearm, I could not see that as disrespectful.

I should ask my GF if she would be offended if I got an American flag tattoo on manly equipment.

It´s not called "land of the legally or emotionally concerned".
Your free to do with YOUR flag as u like. :)

Wow, I am through and through "Red, White, and Blue," and I have no idea how someone could have a problem with this. Yes, I read what people wrote; I digested the comments and thought about the arguments thoroughly. Still, I cannot comprehend how someone could have a problem with this. I mean seriously? This is really up for debate?:banghead:

It seems pretty damn pro-American to me.

And, if a flag touches the ground, it needs to be disposed of properly.

It is a picture of a set of pistol grips! What is more patriotic than that? The Second Amendment is the most important thing in the Bill of Rights. What is more patriotic than engraving a flag on the set of wood pistol grips??? Seems to me, you would almost have to be anti-American (I'm not accusing anyone here of that, so don't jump down my throat) to be against this. Either that, or you would endorse his decision to do this.

I want to meet the person who would untimately decide the verdict of this argument.

If you have the flag on your weapon, uphold the virtues of what it represents and make sure the weapon is only used for good. I'm sure you'd do that anyway but worth mentioning.

(j) No part of the flag should ever be used as a costume or athletic uniform.

I have no problem with his attire from the standpoint of flag protocol. It does not appear to be made from a flag, just printed material. If it was the shape of a flag it would be a different story.

From a fashion standpoint, you can't fix stupid.

I would like to see where that is written, as I see under "Respect for the flag":
The flag should never touch anything beneath it, such as the ground, the floor, water, or merchandise.

But as for destroying it:
The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning

I suppose you could say that it touching the ground means it is no longer "a fitting emblem for display", however I don't think it is that strict.

FWIW there is some regulation stating that the US flag, or it's likeness is not to be used as clothing or ornamentation except when the actual US Flag is being flown the way it is meant to be.
I dunno what the exact regulation is or it's exact wording, but there IS some rule or law of some kind stating that we're not supposed to do it.

Beyond that, I doubt anyone would actually have a problem with it and it's being done too much to keep track of anyway.

Ex: lamps, t-shirts, underwear, wall posters, vehicle window decals, book covers, and so on and so on.

I really wouldn't be concerned about it. I think being American gives you the right to do so as long as it isn't in a disrespectful manner or poor taste. Gun grips with a US Flag logo would, in my opinion, actually be a compliment to the American culture. Our nation was built on firearms, afterall.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

It is easy to defend and protect those who you agree with. It is a the true test of a man if he can defend the rights of those who turn his stomach.

The display of the flag in this manner or that in relation to respect or disrespect is a matter of subjective personal opinion. The quote above guarantees it or at least it should.

This is why I don't have a problem with flag burning.

I think it depends. As an ex soldier, I wouldn't have any qualms with a soldier doing it. They have volunteered to die for that flag... Let them carry it. Those are about the only people I wouldn't consider it disrespectful from. The other group is family of a disabled or deceased vet.... Immediate family. Then there's the president. His office stands for that flag, so basically the same as a vet. On the other hand, just cause I see it as bad taste doesn't mean you shouldn't do it.

Its not an actual flag that is flown so the answer is no IMO. The flag on a Soldier or Marines shoulder gets dragged through the dirt and is not burned or discarded.

Ah...OK so vets have more rights than the average citizen.....got it.

Now we know there are diverse opinions on this matter, let's hear from the OP regarding what he has decided to do. Pony up brother...what's it gonna be?
