And Lensman Kimbers are sweeeeettt! Very Quality firearm! Understand the price thing, however the custom Taurus is aproaching Les Baer pricing. Really curious about it???

My view is that Taurus is the kid in the kindergarten class who could do all sorts of things, but never focus. Their handgun lineup is the largest I have seen and then they have since branched into rifles, granted Pistol caliber, but it's still branching. Then, they carry models for a short time and not working all the bugs out of them. In short, they build a good product, but lack the focus to really compete with the top tier gun makers. I think they are making significant progress particularly with their 1911. At SHOT Show, they mentioned they were building a factory solely for the 1911. They are starting to focus.

I would say it's close, and they are on thier way. They have really done a nice job of getting the quality control issues solved and they are very innovative, keeping consumer interest high. The new 24/7 OSS pistols looks very nice indeed and, I think, could be a big winner for them. The M&P is stealing a bit of thunder though.

I adore my 9mm mil-pro and carry it more than any other gun I own. For me, that says a lot.

Here is a beautiful pic and a shooting times report on the PT1911. I love em and I think they have been getting in focus for about six years. I would agree but there quality has risen above there downfalls of the past.(my opinion).

Thank you guys for putting up your opinions. I personally had no problems with Taurus Pro. I had the previous PT24/7 model, which I did not like.

But if you ask me that if Taurus is as good, in every aspect, as the best in business.... I would have to think hard about it before I answer yes.

I say this because I own HK P2000, and I just cant compare any Taurus with it, or as matter of fact with Glock. This not to say that Taurus is not good. It is good, but like a member previously said they have come a long way and getting better by time.

They are competing hard to be among the best. And probably they are, depending on thier after sale customer service, which I have no experience with. May be someone can shed light on this?

Hey Tomcat47, I downloaded the 2007 catalog from Taurus website and could not find anything about a custom PT1911. Where did you hear about it?

I didn't vote on this poll. I will say this: If they issued call tags or paid the shipping on warranty work, Their sales would skyrocket. Even if it took awhile for the guns to come back. Other manufacturers have long turnaround times as well (except S&W). This would be their next, best, marketing decision IMO. All they would have to do is streamline the shipping process, send a box, etc. This would build goodwill and enhance their reputation.

Several thousand rounds through my 24/7 with only two problems, both caused by reloads. The first time, the action locked up while I was shooting some very stout loads (in hindsight, these were probably unsafe). The second time, I was experimenting with low-power loads that wouldn't cycle the action reliably.

So, I have had ZERO problems with factory ammo.

What do you mean when you say "action locked up"?
I am asking this becasue with the 24/7 I had- sometimes on first shot I had to pull the trigger twice....is this something similar to what you experienced? If so, then the problem is universal with Taurus, since a buddy of mine had similar issue. Not sure if this was corrected in the Pro model since I had it for a few days before a friend bought it off of me.

As a owner of a PT111 Mil/pro, PT22, model 65,66,85CH, and 94, all Taurus that Taurus does put out decent products. All of these have given excellent service and some are 15+ years old. Longevity and dureability have been the bywords.

In 2005 Taurus won three prestigious awards in the gun industry overall as well as several NRA awards about the same time or even more recently.

The 3 major awards are as follows: Shooting Industry Manufacturer of the Year; National Association Of Sporting Goods Wholesalers of the Year; SHOT Business Manufacture of the Year.

So Taurus has to be doing something right and putting out good products.Otherwise these would not have been awarded. Competition is fierce. These awards are not just handed out.

" Conventional Wisdom" to the contrary Taurus is doing things right for the most part. And...."Conventional Wisdom" is not always wise.

I did not vote because I consider other companies makes and models on merits even though I own a number of Taurus revolvers. I do own other makers products, but the Tauri meet every criterea and fill every niche. The Taurus revolvers get used more than anything else. That will be true for a long time to come.

Thought this needed posting even if the poll is closed. Have to keep the record straight. Also feel this way about any other manufacturer's wares.

Taurus has recently done in the handgun market what Savage has done in the rifle market. They have gone from a second tier company and become one of the premier, leading sellers in thier business. If anyone, say, about 20 years ago would have told you that Savage was going to become one of the best, out of the box rifle producers, people would have looked at you like you were crazy. I think Taurus is about to do the same. They seem to have the cajones to whip out new and innovative designs, at great risk to thier bottom line, $$$.

I agree with everything you said. I voted a solid Yes.
