I saw an ad for it while browsing through the Dec. issue of "Special Weapons for Law Enforcement". It had a railed handguard I haven't seen before. I was dissapointed that 7.62x39 wasn't listed as an optional caliber.

I really haven't kept up with it's development, but the ad must have been placed in August or September.

Nope it is real. Remington will market it for defense customers. Bushmaster will be the branding for consumers.

They are taking the smart route and making it in 5.56x45mm first. Additional development will include 6.8x43mm, 7.62x39mm, .30 AR and probably the 6.5 Grendel.

This was all the buzz on the gun blogs about a month ago.

Will probably be on the market next year.

Current word from Bushmaster is that the rifles will be available in the first half of 2009. Reality? I don't know.

The only thing I can say is "look how long it took for the SCAR and the Keltec RFB to come out".

Yeah, and the Scar 17s (7.62x51) was supposed to come out Q1 of 2009. Vaporware for sure.

I think we will see it... just taking a ton of time. I am not holding my breath for it.

at this point I would rather have a SCAR. I like the looks of it when it was the Masada, but the design has been uglified enough that I no longer want it.

    iamKris, thanks for those links.

Egad! I love black rifles but the SCAR has to be the fugliest hunk of plastic I have ever seen! Looks aren't everything though, at least it's got a short-stroke operation.
