Reason I ask, is that I'm getting preliminary information that I'll have an assignment to the Pentagon fairly soon. So, as I leave the safety of Florida, do I send entire collection to parents in Wisconsin for the duration, or are there some gun-friendly suburbs and firing ranges in Virginia and the DC-commuting area? (Depends if I take base housing, too) Bummer. :(

In Northern Virginia you should be fine, even in southern maryland, providing none of your handguns were made after 12-31-02.

Yohan, PRK is the abbreviation for...

    People's Republic of **********.

Alternatively described as: The People's Democratic Republic of **********

or The People's Democratic Socialist Republic of **********

I note that even the residents, when posting here, use the PRK location descriptor. That says something. I left Sacramento after 10 years, in a big hurry with a gun collection that would've become illegal there once January 1, 2000 rolled around.

I've also taken it to mean "Peoples Replublic of **********".

Bummer you have to move up North. I'm glad I'm out the Military these days. I'd be pissed if I had to go somewhere I couldn't take my guns.

I think living in Virginia is the best choice of the surrounding area. I have heard the housing in Alexandria and nearby communities are pretty pricey.

If you don't mind the drive, look to the east of Alexandria Virginia. Property is a little cheeper if you go 40-70 miles to the east of the Metro area.

Virginia is your only choice. As pointed out earlier the N. VA burbs are real expensive. The longer a commute you can stand the more affordable the housing. Traffic is a b***h all over N. VA. I keep meaning to make it to one of Mike Irwin's shoots down there. Maybe the next one.

Your gonna be in SodaPop's neck of the woods if you move to the DC area. Delaware is a very good State to live in, also. Pennsylvania is a little far: 1hr 45minutes.

Many places I've been to are worse.

Sounds like you and Virginia, but I'd be inclined to put your collection in secure storage until you get settled.

Pity I'm not looking for a roommate anymore, Gew. I'm less than 12 miles from the Pentagon right on Route 50.

All of it. There is NO legal cary at all in Illinois. Beware of those who tout the so called fanny pack loop holes, they will just get you arrested.
The new governor of IL is a rabid communist anti gunner that is in Daly's pocket. He plans on passing many gun laws that will make PRK's look like childs games.

I'm leaving IL as soon as I can arrange escape. I suggest you or anyone who is a sportsman, or just a shoot, to stay out of here.

    Florida vs. Virginia

Florida has a handgun waiting period, but Virginia does not -- you'll be improving there.

Florida allows counties to impose longer waiting periods and such, Virginia does not -- you'll be improving there.

Virginia has a one-gun-a-month law, Florida does not -- you'll be getting worse there.

Both have shall issue CCW -- no difference there.

Neither have registration -- no difference there.

Neither have licensing or "permit to buy" -- no difference there.

East of Alexandria is Maryland. The Potomac goes pretty much due-south at Alexandria

FWIW, Maryland is the only state to get a full A from the Brady Campaign. California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Massachusetts, New Jersey all got A-. So using Brady Campaign, Maryland is worse than PRK.

Re "Is there a place worse than California", or however one spells it?

Most definately, any number of them. Consider this, even if you currently live there.

If you should want to move, and go elsewhere, all you need to is to pack up, and go. Put the house up for sale if you are so situated, or just leave the apartment.

Other places might require permission from "the government" to move, permission which might or might not be granted.

    Keep Posting Guys

I'm feeling better and better about living in the PRK. Someday I want to move to New Mexico or Texas. When I grow up I want to be like Art Eatman.:D
